For the record, I like Muslims as a whole.  I think that they have been misrepresented and misunderstood in many ways.  When I was deployed to Iraq I trained and fought with Muslim soldiers, many of whom would have laid down their life for me if it came to that.  However, every religion has a certain group of crazy people…these were the people we were fighting in Iraq.  Sadly, they don’t have much of a sense of humor.

Here is a long article I wrote about Islam for a freind’s blog a while back, take a look:

I am against book burning in whatever form it may take, be it goose stepping, jack booted thugs or a Florida Pastor looking to create a controversy. However, the recent Koran burning by Pastor Terry Jones and the reaction of protesters and militants in Afghanistan begs the question, did Muslims just prove Jones’ point? Are Muslims nothing but a bunch of savages?

Let me clear the air up front: Pastor Jones is an idiot. You remember him from when he announced International Burn a Koran Day back on the 9th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. It was only after President Obama and US Defense Secretary Gates interceded that he backed down. Now he’s back at it again, finally following through on his book burning promises. Personally, I think anyone who burns a book is a moron, and those who allow this distraction to consume their lives are even bigger dupes.

Documents were just released showing that billions of dollars of US bail-out money went to foreign banks, including Libya and we choose a Koran burning to get upset about?

Really?

Wasting no time in helping Jones propagate his message, demonstrators at Mazer-i-Sharif in Afghanistan responded to the Koran burning by raiding the local UN building. Once inside they murdered a number of European UN workers as well as their Nepalese guards, including two beheadings. American’s can barely concern themselves with their own dead soldiers, much less UN workers hailing from Sweden, Norway, and Romania, so what was the point?

@JackMurphyRGR , I was at church today and it finally came to me why you haven't received a Fatwah yet.  The only version of the Koran that is considered "really a Koran" is one in Arabic.  Face palm, Brother you gotta up load one in Arabic then delete that.  PROBLEM SOLVED!

Its time to go, the objective from October 2001 has been met over a year ago.

@FLNavyVet@ArcticWarrior  I've always heard helo's described as 'a couple thousand parts flying in close formation'.  What's a RPG vs. the chance to take down a helo, They have hundreds of the things.  Furthermore, how are we going to beat people set on the belief that if they bite it just trying, they're leaving their crappy lives behind to go to paradise? I've always wondered what would happen if we airdropped a bunch of AK's and mags all over the less extreme parts of the country with notes that say 'good luck, we're all counting on you'...  I feel like we're not going to get anything more out of staying, except more widows, but then I wonder why did we pay the price in lives, without anything to show for it?  Don't we owe it to those who lost their lives, or will never be the same, to make something of the situation?  Do any of you guys have an answer, because I don't.  I have friends who will never be the same, either from injuries or the emotional/family issues from being deployed multiple times and I wonder how they're going to handle it.

@Tango1983  @HugeFan  @Connor31  @Tango9 It's not just a hostile environment for these machines, it maybe the worse environment we can operate them in. Does that mean their flawed? No. There are a large number of moving high-precision parts on these birds and the dirt/dust/debris can cause the parts to fail at a much higher rate. This means more and accelerated maintenance and parts replacement. Let's just say Supply is not something we're the best at...

I know you can't just pull out overnight, however, we need to stop training these little scumbags.  There's no up-side to it, at all.  When we leave, does anyone actually entertain the fantasy that the ANA will last more than 6 months?

Let the place drop back into civil war, and we just offer 1 notice:  Do what you like, but if we EVER think an attack on the USA originates from Asscrackistan, we will turn your cities into smoking piles of rubble, and then we'll destroy the rubble.

    • In the IDF, 'Lonely Soldier' is a term that describes soldiers serving on active duty who have no family is Israel. These are volunteers that came to serve for 3-5 years. They typically go back to their respective countries upon completion. Most commonly, these are people who immigrated to Israel by themselves. I was one of them. While in Israel, I lived in an apartment building where the majority of people were lonely soldiers. It was located on the outer ring of Jerusalem, surrounded by four Arab villages. My roommates were two recon guys (like me) and one who worked in field intel. All of the other inhabitants were soldiers from various units, with most of them serving a combat role. It was a well known thing, especially to the Arabs in the village. Most of the time we wouldn't be there, but when we were on leave, we would come to the apartment for a little R&R. It was rare that the four of us were there at the same time, but once in a blue moon, it did happen. Each village had, as is customary, its own mosque. When the time for prayer came, the loudspeakers would call out to the faithful. It was OK, we were used to it. However, over the weekend they would make it a point to play the call to prayer very, and I mean VERY, loud. They knew soldiers would be in the building trying to get some sleep - recovering from several weeks in the field. This always annoyed me but there was nothing I could do. On this particular weekend, after an intense seven weeks of non-stop ops, all I wanted was to go to the apartment, sleep, eat, sleep some more and then sleep again. That weekend the four of us were at the apartment and we were all equally tired. We arrived Thursday night and after a small dinner and some beers, we went to sleep. At 0400 we all jumped.... The freaking loudspeakers at all four mosques began their call to prayer at full blast. Fuck.... We spent the remainder of the day trying to rest and every time we would fall asleep, again... The call for prayers, full blast! Over lunch, we all looked at each other and knew this had to stop. We came up with a plan. I know it wasn't nice, but at that point we couldn't care less about political correctness. Here's what we did. After some recon that night, we noticed that the call to prayer wasn't performed by an Imam or some other person with a microphone. It was a tape recorder that used a tape. We figured the four of us, experts in stealthy infils, could sneak in and steal those tapes. However, while we were planning the different infil routes for each village, we all smiled and did something better. We recorded Metallica's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' on repeat on all four tapes and then waited till midnight. At midnight, each one of us - armed with a Metallica tape - headed to a different village. All dressed in black, we were careful not to be seen. We entered into the buildings and exchanged the tapes. We rallied back to the exfil point, a crossroad not far from the last village and headed back to our apartment. And then we waited... At 0350 we went to the roof with some coffee, opened some field chairs and waited for the show to begin. At 0400 sharp the first "call" came alive, full volume: Make his fight On the hill in the early day Constant chill deep inside ... Take a look To the sky Just before you die It's the last time he will Followed by the next, then the 3rd and 4th joined in. Full volume Metallica! Soon after, we heard sirens headed to the villages. I don't know what happened after that, but we had our own private concert, right there. No kidding, there I was... Metallica call to prayer
