Hi Guys,

I was wondering if this book will ever be offered for the Nook? I just read Benghazi (on Nook) and really want to read this one. I know I can read it on the computer, but with 8 rods in my back do not care to sit at a desk that long.

Regardless, I appreciate this site and enjoy your comments.

@EddyG There is a way to load the Kindle App on your Nook. Then you can read Kindle books on your Nook. Information to do this is found here:

It appears to be a long process.

Just watched the 60 minutes interview of Mark Owen.  Very well done I thought and it captured a lot of what was in the book and gave some more detail ref Bin Laden's coup de grac that I found enlightening.

If you watch on the website be sure to check out the OT excerpt on Marcinko.  I also thought that was interesting.  I had never seen the video of Red Cell in action.

The only secret I have found in this controversial book is that DEVGRU SEALs also have bottles of piss in their CHUs, just like the rest of us conventional folks. I don't feel so dirty now.

Don't know if there is a better place to put this but just finished reading "No Easy Day".  Thoroughly enjoyed it even more so than Cris Kyle's book which is also a great read.  A lot of action and one of the humblest SEAL writers I've read.  I think he's one of the first that didn't retell his BUDS story.

A couple of very minor mistakes (A bradley has a 25mm not a 20mm) but I thought there was a lot to be gained and worth the $18

Ok, so I just finished listening to No Easy Day on Audible, and since I read No Easy Op, I really see value of you guys input.  I'm not gonna lie and say it wasn't a fascinating listen, but you all really made me see it differently because of your threat chain description.  I heard probably five different things (my ears are untrained) that if I were the person Bissonette was talking about, I wouldn't be too happy having such specifics mentioned, but thats just my opinion, and I don't know if they truly constitute crossed boundaries.  I did keep in mind what Brandon said about people in Devgru already having to deal with repercussions.  I know this is gonna sound wierd, but I feel pretty bad for the lawn care kid he mentions who could tell something was up before the raid, who if someone wanted to, they could do some pretty bad things to him, and he has no warrior background with which to defend himself.  Doesn't seem like it would be too hard to find him.

I've just finished reading it and I really appreciate it, but one thing surprised me and I really would like some clarification about it.

In the bonus content "The Difference Between DELTA and SEAL TEAM SIX", I thought it would have some little modifications after the intense and lenghty discussion on the topic when the user Eric Stratton made some possible corrections about the the Land Warfare capabilities of the "regular" SEAL Teams as well as ST6 (DEVGRU), why didn't this modification was made? Was those informations made by Eric considered wrong by the authors??

Great ebook and thank you for your time gents.

@EliasFreire I don't know what "Otter" said, but I agree with him. As an Active Duty SEAL with significant Afghan combat experience, he knows exactly what he is talking about.

EliasFreire

@RVN SF VET He pointed out some misconceptions in the article regarding SEAL's Land Warfare skills, we even told the creator of the topic (Iassen Donov) to write another one with Stratton, Donov writing about Delta and Stratton writing about the DEVGRU. It kind of let me down to know that they didn't changed a thing in the ebook after that lenghty discussion in a amazing topic.

I really would like to know why they didn't do that.

I'm new here and I have a question and I'm hoping I don't get pounced on for asking it.  So, there is this explosion of SEAL commerce (including this very website and Brandon's other biz ventures) and other books & shows written by and "starring" other team guys...the big deal IMO is that "Owen," didn't clear his book with the Pentagon and according to many "broke the code within the teams." But how is he any different than Brandon, Kyle or the others doing so?  I'm just curious. Incidentally, I know of someone who could very well write a book about these topics but won't because that person feels it would be "wrong" to do it. Thoughts?

Sounds like Rear Admiral Sean Pybus is about to put the hammer down with his latest statement. "We do NOT advertise the nature of our work, NOR do we seek recognition for our actions," . “Today, we find former SEALs headlining positions in a Presidential campaign; hawking details about a mission against Enemy Number 1; and generally selling other aspects of NSW training and operations.  For an Elite Force that should be humble and disciplined for life, we are certainly not appearing to be so.” Pybus further stated he will speak to senior leaders about how to stop the trend of former SEALS profiting from their time in uniform

Also Officials at the Pentagon say it's not clear the Justice Department will pursue criminal charges against Owen, but suggest the U.S. government could seize all money paid to the former SEAL and the publisher, Dutton, under the non-disclosure agreement signed by Owen before he left the Navy. Sounds like this may be the course the government is going to go. It would be a bad call all the way around prosecuting Bissonette, a man who has conducted hundreds of missions including the big one but seizing the money may send a message, whether it' the right message remains to be seen.

I'm confused gentlemen while openly admitting to not knowing all the facts and hoping someone can enlighten this plain old Chief (ret.) to why this one is different than any of those besides the obvious it was (without details) a mission oriented book.

1. Bob Needham wrote a book titled: "Team secrets of the NAVY SEALS"

2.Dick Couch wrote books including, "The Warrior Elite": "The Forging of SEAL Class 228", "The Finishing School: Earning the Navy SEAL Trident", "The Sheriff of Ramadi", "Down Range: Navy Seals in the War on Terrorism", "Seal Team One", "Silent descent", .

3. Chuck Pfarrer wrote "Warrior Soul: The Memoir of a Navy SEAL"

4. Marcus Luttrell wrote "Lone survivor" AND during an interview said he voted to kill the kid that found them in their   hide???

5. Did not Chris Kyle write a book that spoke of his first kill(?) being a woman.

6. Not to mention Cmdr. Marcinkos book(S) O PLENTY.

Are they to ostracised by the community? Have the love and respect for these men diminished? Do we as military professionals and men of honor not honor their choice or believe in them that they would not jeporadize their brothers?

I have nothing but love and respect for you all, not because of what you have done. It's none of my dam business, but let us be honest the mission leaks DID NOT start with this PATRIOT. As described vividly by a guy named Larry Bailey.

So someone, if you would be so kind as to help a fellow squid out.

"Nobody in the Teams likes Obama and we all want him to lose the election, but not this way."

Yeah this quote right here is in direct contradiction to what Brandon has repeatedly written. Sure, there may be plenty of folks in the SEAL community who don't like the POTUS but what a sweeping generalization it is to state that the teams as a whole don't approve of him. Tell that to McRaven.

Breach

@CalebMuibu Well if what Froggy says is true then the Navy SEAL Foundation isn't accepting a cent from the sale of the book. That's more than one SEAL's opinion.

@BrandonWebb  @Breach  @CalebMuibu I just read the book, I cannot lie I absolutely loved it! What I like most is the reality contrast between just pulling off the raid of the century a world away and pulling into Taco Bell roughly a day and some change later and getting food from a kid that has the slightest idea that the man he is serving had his hands on UBL's body not too long ago.

And with that comes my opinion why regardless of the gripping story and personal service, he should have kept the details to himself for sometime. "It's the principalities smokey"!

@Breach  @CalebMuibu  I'm not arguing that point Breach and I dare not try to say that Froggy is lying at all. He has more right to say what he did than I do to dispute it but I just take issue with what seems to be a sweeping generalization. SOFREP's very own Brandon Webb is also a SEAL with many years under his belt and he himself has stated that he knows SEALs who like and even support the POTUS and vice versa. Froggy going ahead and stating that "nobody on the teams likes Obama" is a stretch in my opinion. There are over 2,500 AD SEALs, did he perform a census on all of them? And once again I mean absolutely no disrespect, just a tiny rebuttal.

I'm at the planning stage in the book. So much for history, the author gets the disaster at Desert One in Operation Eagle Claw wrong. Mistakes like that one can be learned from, although it might be at the JSOC level. It's not wise to forget history; especially when so many special operators are well read.

Read chapter 1 in the team room earlier. The objectivity was outsatnding. Gave props on Amazon and would have bought it, but I don't have a Kindle. Heck, I still use a flip phone. Good stuff. I was wondering if anyone knows what was said about "Five Years to Freedom" by Lt.Col. Nick Rowe? I haven't heard any criticism about that. Perhaps it is because the book was published a long time ago when I paid no attention to anything other than beer and girls.

 @JRMayII

"Five Years to Freedom" is a must read great book. Rowe spent a lot of time in a bamboo cage before he escaped and was one of the few to do so. He was assassinated in the Philippines in the late 80's or early 90's. I don't recall reading anything in it that would have raised any concerns.

JRMayII
JRMayII 5pts like.author.displayName 1 Like

@CJCJ  @JRMayII It was in '89. He actually had recieved intel that advised that he and some others were on a hit list just days before. While nothing in "Five Years to Freedom" may have raised concern (although his experiences were the motivation behind SERE school as I understand), it seems that some take offense to simply going public with anything at all. I have no opinion as long as national security (which I am not really qualified to determine, except in the most obvious cases) and that of those involved are not compromised.

Thanks for the knowledge, that's good to hear. (FYI, the last sentence in my previous post above was VERY poorly worded.) Having endured what he did, and then returning to active service, Rowe deserved nothing but adulation and praise.

I regret that I missed an opportunity to hear his remarks when he he came to speak at my unit about his experiences. The current problems in the PI can be traced back quite a way. The "PNG" (personna non gratis) status that Dalton Fury and others have recently discussed about the current controversial book may have been visited on Rowe as well. The mental toughness and physical endurance that Rowe demonstrated in captivity is absolutely extraordinary. Many have benefited from reading and hearing his story. "PNG" style ostracism is a price I'm grateful he paid whether or not he expected it.

Maybe someone already posted this, but in the e-book you say there is only one book written by Delta Force members talking about combat during the war on terror. Col. Pete Blaber wrote, "The Mission, the Men and Me." Col Blaber's book is a must read; thanks for the e-book.

@JackMurphyRGR  @Lance Anderson Even though he is selling his consulting services and a silly idea about how to think, he still has some good stories and he and Dalton Fury compliment one another's Afghan stories. However, my Delta retiree says that Dalton's book is the best and to read his fiction as well. As pointed out by "No Easy Op", he has been ostracized by his former brothers - for no good reason. The CIA's man on site was Berenson also tells much the same story. Blaber is made fun of by his former peers.

Great job on "No Easy Op"! Could not be more fair and objective.

An issue I got from the reading, is this notion that Mark Owen was basically dismissed from Six because he stated an interest in getting out and starting a small business:

1. Is leaving the unit, in and of itself, a form of betrayal? If you don't retire after 20 years or are carried out on your shield, you are PNG'ed?

2. Or did it have to do with the type of small business he was interested in starting?

Going from being one of the guys that pumped bullets into OBL to getting the brush off by your teammates....because you want to start a small business when you get out....as a civilian, I'm a bit like...WTF?

 @Jaycel Adkins

Good questions Jaycel. I thought about that as well. From the discussion on SOFREP radio it sounds like there was some "drama" with MB's departure from DEVGRU. Not sure how much info we'll get but maybe the book will shed light on it. I have a hard time processing that a team member like MB could get PNG'd. Then again I suppose those of us that have not served let alone made it to a Tier One Team wouldn't be able to really understand the brotherhood that these men share.

    • In the IDF, 'Lonely Soldier' is a term that describes soldiers serving on active duty who have no family is Israel. These are volunteers that came to serve for 3-5 years. They typically go back to their respective countries upon completion. Most commonly, these are people who immigrated to Israel by themselves. I was one of them. While in Israel, I lived in an apartment building where the majority of people were lonely soldiers. It was located on the outer ring of Jerusalem, surrounded by four Arab villages. My roommates were two recon guys (like me) and one who worked in field intel. All of the other inhabitants were soldiers from various units, with most of them serving a combat role. It was a well known thing, especially to the Arabs in the village. Most of the time we wouldn't be there, but when we were on leave, we would come to the apartment for a little R&R. It was rare that the four of us were there at the same time, but once in a blue moon, it did happen. Each village had, as is customary, its own mosque. When the time for prayer came, the loudspeakers would call out to the faithful. It was OK, we were used to it. However, over the weekend they would make it a point to play the call to prayer very, and I mean VERY, loud. They knew soldiers would be in the building trying to get some sleep - recovering from several weeks in the field. This always annoyed me but there was nothing I could do. On this particular weekend, after an intense seven weeks of non-stop ops, all I wanted was to go to the apartment, sleep, eat, sleep some more and then sleep again. That weekend the four of us were at the apartment and we were all equally tired. We arrived Thursday night and after a small dinner and some beers, we went to sleep. At 0400 we all jumped.... The freaking loudspeakers at all four mosques began their call to prayer at full blast. Fuck.... We spent the remainder of the day trying to rest and every time we would fall asleep, again... The call for prayers, full blast! Over lunch, we all looked at each other and knew this had to stop. We came up with a plan. I know it wasn't nice, but at that point we couldn't care less about political correctness. Here's what we did. After some recon that night, we noticed that the call to prayer wasn't performed by an Imam or some other person with a microphone. It was a tape recorder that used a tape. We figured the four of us, experts in stealthy infils, could sneak in and steal those tapes. However, while we were planning the different infil routes for each village, we all smiled and did something better. We recorded Metallica's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' on repeat on all four tapes and then waited till midnight. At midnight, each one of us - armed with a Metallica tape - headed to a different village. All dressed in black, we were careful not to be seen. We entered into the buildings and exchanged the tapes. We rallied back to the exfil point, a crossroad not far from the last village and headed back to our apartment. And then we waited... At 0350 we went to the roof with some coffee, opened some field chairs and waited for the show to begin. At 0400 sharp the first "call" came alive, full volume: Make his fight On the hill in the early day Constant chill deep inside ... Take a look To the sky Just before you die It's the last time he will Followed by the next, then the 3rd and 4th joined in. Full volume Metallica! Soon after, we heard sirens headed to the villages. I don't know what happened after that, but we had our own private concert, right there. No kidding, there I was... Metallica call to prayer
