Stoking the Flames of Insurgency

US Consulate Attack In Benghazi
The recent embassy attacks in Egypt and Libya are only the beginning. The ‘anti-Mohammed’ film is being reported by much of the media (especially here in the United States) as the catalyst for the most recent attack.

As was reported earlier by Mr. Miller, the attacks in Benghazi and in Egypt have the markings of a coordinated attack. Newer rumblings in the streets are even now saying that the film supposedly seen by the masses on YouTube may even be some sort of complex, elaborate hoax of sorts.

All that said, one really only needs to compare and contrast the logic between two simple possibilities to determine the most likely cause of this:

1) This current conflagration occurred spontaneously across numerous borders and thousands of miles because of an obscure YouTube video that no Westerner had heard of (before now) on the anniversary of one of the greatest tragedies/victories in the centuries old conflict between the West and the Muslim world.

OR

2) Months, likely years ago, special operations trainers and advisers (similar to Army Special Forces/Green Berets) from various countries (who do not like America or her allies) were covertly inserted into key geopolitical locations with the intention to build an uprising and destabilize the local governments, and ultimately the region.

If you’re like me, you probably needed a few moments of careful consideration to logically determine the most likely chain of events. Possibly the same amount of time it takes for a Molotov cocktail to pass through a window and shatter a peaceful Arabian night.

It is not a coincidence this occurred on the anniversary of 9/11. Radical Islamists are known for their appreciation of significant dates. I knew what this was the moment I saw it. This is not the first time the Islamist hornets nest has been kicked by Western media, and it won’t be the last. However, this appears to have different markings on it.

For those on the ground at these uprising, I have no doubt that the vast majority of the masses were wound up into a fury over the film on YouTube and winding up the masses is really easy to do when you have a collection of faithful followers paying close attention to one speaker, five times a day. From the perspective of an adviser working to create an insurgency, this is a made-to-order mass communication system combining religious zeal with the voice of religious authority.

After the 2006 bombing in Samarra, Iraq

For example, while I was in Iraq in 2006, I had the extreme displeasure of being woken up by the controlled demolition of the Golden Mosque in Samarra. Initial reports coming in from our ears on the street were that the local mosque leaders immediately blamed the American CIA and the Israeli Mossad over their mosque loudspeaker systems.

It didn’t matter that elements of Al Qaeda bribed the guards and were given around eight hours the night prior to professionally rig the mosque with explosives. The story was already in the hive-mind collective. This was the catalyst for countless murders and killings between the Sunni and Shia across Iraq, and shook the country up quite a bit.

So, whats the end state of this? If I were the head honcho in Iran (easiest guess), I would be working my tail end off to create a proxy war in order to force the hands of my enemies, particularly when there is an important American election on the horizon. More importantly, by utilizing military personnel who are experts in training, advising, and leading insurgencies, you can not only sow a tremendous amount dissent among the citizenry residing under foreign governments who are either stable or ‘allied’ with your enemies; all while maintaining a veneer of innocence.

US Ambassador Chris Stevens Final Moments

As someone who understands insurgency, knowing your population is crucial. Knowing what the motivations are of the average individual on the ground floor can reveal any number of possible courses of action based on your goals.

In the case of the Muslim world, an authoritative figure speaking to an audience could say something like, “The evil American Michael Moore called Mohammed a fat, stupid-head!” (he didn’t as far as I know), and inspire them all to burn down at least one government building. If they actually had video of it, they could spread it via the social media networks and stoke a civil war in a matter of weeks.

The long glowing embers are red hot and the first few logs have just been thrown on. This looks like it could become a major bonfire in very short order.

The world would be wise to look at the roots of this twisted vine that is crawling up to choke out the fragile peace that exists around the world. Once those roots are found, a gallon of weed-killer normally does the trick.

Egypt just issued warrants for 7 Coptics over the offending film:

"Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, an Egyptian Copt living in southern California and believed to be behind the film, is among those charged. So is Florida-based Pastor Terry Jones, who has said he was contacted by the filmmaker to promote the video. "

So that phone call from O to Morsi . .

@LauraWalkerKC The Muslim Brotherhood issuing warrants for Americans?  Never saw that coming.

Where's the apology for not securing the Embassy and having our flag destroyed and replaced with Al Qeada's?  Where's our official demand for that apology?  Nah, "we understand how you guys feel".  The nuts are in charge of the asylum.

@Recon6 I need to look for updates, so I'm flying by the seat of my pants on this comment - but it could get tricky if they send it up to Interpol as a red notice.  The United States does not have to arrest anyone on U.S. soil just because Interpol throws up a red notice.

Nakoula and Jones are in the US.  Not sure where the other 5 people named reside.

If Egypt was successful in getting red notices, that's one thing. But if they pursue extradition we do have this little extradition treaty with Cairo to deal with.  The current admin is in witch hunt mode - and letting these goofy filmmakers take the heat for failed foreign policy isn't something had to imagine.

However . . all these are legal battles subject to  . . lawyahs.

@LauraWalkerKC  @Recon6   I'm pleased that it appears that the US (behind-the-scenes) is now writing the narrative for this - even though it is BS and full of holes.  OPINION:  The warrants are a piece of appeasement paper, probably equivalent to toilet paper.   It's diplomatic manuevering to save face for all governments involved.  The US is off the hook, the ME governments have 'bad guys' to point out and can say to their constituents "see...we are doing something about it".   Diplomatic wrangling will go on for months and months and nothing will be done and everybody will go home happy.    Sounds like a good plan to me :)

@LauraWalkerKC  Laura, sorry about my vague comment, I failed to impart my apprehension that this administration 'might' honor that warrant

and an American citizen would be handed over.  Thanks...6

@ArcticWarrior Very little, at least so far. We need a multiple of at least 100 to 1 on any payback we take. I'd empty the bases in A-Stan. Everybody out. Go kill bad guys while they're all amped up and liable to come out and fight. Give them a display of frightfulness they will remember. I'd sent Panetta to Israel(very publically) to meet with his Israeli counterpart and I'd send the Asst. Sec. Def. to India to meet with his counterpart. I'd announce billions in new aid packages to India and Israel. We need to show them that their actions are having the exact opposite effect of what they want.

Hundreds of Salafists burned US flags in Morocco after Friday prayers at a mosque in a poor neighbourhood of Sale, twin town to the Moroccan capital Rabat.

Around 200 of the hardline Islamists gathered, shouting anti-US slogans including "American satan", before trampling on two US flags and then ripping them up and setting them ablaze.

The security forces were not in evidence.

Between 300 and 400 Muslim activists had gathered outside the US consulate in Morocco's largest city Casablanca, amid a heavy police presence, protesting against the film and shouting anti-US slogans.

Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniya, in a sermon during Friday prayers, repeated a call on Washington to apologise for the film, produced in the United States.

"The US administration should apologise to the Arab and Islamic nation for this offensive film and bring these criminals to justice," he said.

Haniya said the film was the result of "a Jewish-American-Crusader alliance to ignite a war on Islam and sectarian strife, particularly in Egypt".

Protests began peacefully with several hundred people demonstrating on the plaza that holds both the Al-Aqsa and Dome of the Rock mosques, chanting, "With our blood and our soul, we will sacrifice for you our Prophet".

But clashes broke out between a part of the crowd and Israeli police as the demonstration moved out of the Old City, with security forces firing tear gas and stun grenades that injured at least five people.

"Israel police are dispersing rioters at Damascus Gate, rocks and stones are being thrown at them," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.

@ArcticWarrior This is ridiculous, Ismail Haniya is Hamas Prime Minister. Hamas is designated as a terrorist organization. That "title" needs to be added to any news reports. "terrorists demand apology for Parody funded by Terrorists", thats the headline.

Not for long.

That's why we need to heed Sen. McCain's call to go to Syria, but not to help the "rebels" but to aid the Assad regime.

I saw the film, produced by Copts, made in CA, it's no "the Message" w/ Anthony Quinn, but they were spot on about Islam.

I noticed much of the film also drew heavily from "Mother of Believers, Ate her Children", written by a Syrian Christian--he's in Europe now. SOFREP should interview him, and get the scoop on this.

So my point here is the film itself is base on truth, it's just low budget. So why apologize for it?

    • In the IDF, 'Lonely Soldier' is a term that describes soldiers serving on active duty who have no family is Israel. These are volunteers that came to serve for 3-5 years. They typically go back to their respective countries upon completion. Most commonly, these are people who immigrated to Israel by themselves. I was one of them. While in Israel, I lived in an apartment building where the majority of people were lonely soldiers. It was located on the outer ring of Jerusalem, surrounded by four Arab villages. My roommates were two recon guys (like me) and one who worked in field intel. All of the other inhabitants were soldiers from various units, with most of them serving a combat role. It was a well known thing, especially to the Arabs in the village. Most of the time we wouldn't be there, but when we were on leave, we would come to the apartment for a little R&R. It was rare that the four of us were there at the same time, but once in a blue moon, it did happen. Each village had, as is customary, its own mosque. When the time for prayer came, the loudspeakers would call out to the faithful. It was OK, we were used to it. However, over the weekend they would make it a point to play the call to prayer very, and I mean VERY, loud. They knew soldiers would be in the building trying to get some sleep - recovering from several weeks in the field. This always annoyed me but there was nothing I could do. On this particular weekend, after an intense seven weeks of non-stop ops, all I wanted was to go to the apartment, sleep, eat, sleep some more and then sleep again. That weekend the four of us were at the apartment and we were all equally tired. We arrived Thursday night and after a small dinner and some beers, we went to sleep. At 0400 we all jumped.... The freaking loudspeakers at all four mosques began their call to prayer at full blast. Fuck.... We spent the remainder of the day trying to rest and every time we would fall asleep, again... The call for prayers, full blast! Over lunch, we all looked at each other and knew this had to stop. We came up with a plan. I know it wasn't nice, but at that point we couldn't care less about political correctness. Here's what we did. After some recon that night, we noticed that the call to prayer wasn't performed by an Imam or some other person with a microphone. It was a tape recorder that used a tape. We figured the four of us, experts in stealthy infils, could sneak in and steal those tapes. However, while we were planning the different infil routes for each village, we all smiled and did something better. We recorded Metallica's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' on repeat on all four tapes and then waited till midnight. At midnight, each one of us - armed with a Metallica tape - headed to a different village. All dressed in black, we were careful not to be seen. We entered into the buildings and exchanged the tapes. We rallied back to the exfil point, a crossroad not far from the last village and headed back to our apartment. And then we waited... At 0350 we went to the roof with some coffee, opened some field chairs and waited for the show to begin. At 0400 sharp the first "call" came alive, full volume: Make his fight On the hill in the early day Constant chill deep inside ... Take a look To the sky Just before you die It's the last time he will Followed by the next, then the 3rd and 4th joined in. Full volume Metallica! Soon after, we heard sirens headed to the villages. I don't know what happened after that, but we had our own private concert, right there. No kidding, there I was... Metallica call to prayer
