Was an ExxonMobil Executive Assassinated in Brussels?

by BK · October 29, 2012 · Posted In: Special Operations
NicholasMockford_2379778b
ExxonMobil has said that it is “shocked” by the murder of one of their executives, Nicholas Mockford, who was gunned down as he and his wife left a restaurant in Brussels, Belgium on October 14th. The British Newspaper, the Daily Mail, is reporting it appeared to be an “assassination-type” killing, as Mockford was shot three times, with two bullets in his back and one in his head. AP news is reporting 4 shots. There have been no arrests.

Mockford was shot in a tactical-syle killing that almost never happens in real life. A shocked relative said,  ”He was shot so calmly and so quickly, it smacks horribly of a professional hit, but we can’t fathom why. He isn’t the type to cave in to blackmail and it just doesn’t compute.”

The murder occurred almost two weeks ago, but has only now been picked up by the international press. This is due to the Belgian police imposing a news blackout, which, apparently and completely idiotically, is not unusual on the continent.

This could well be a simple robbery gone bad. But I do have some questions:

  • A Belgian police source said; ‘It could have been a carjacking gone wrong. They panicked and he died. But this is not the only avenue we are pursuing.’ What makes the source say that?
  • The investigators report that Mrs. Mockford was actually first attacked, as they grabbed for her purse and beat her, but left her relatively unharmed. So, car-jacking or simple robbery? Why, after such a calm killing, leave a witness right there?
  • A witness stated that the men asked for money and the car, only to then turn on the couple. A relative stated that Mr. Mockford was a mild-mannered man who was driving a company car. Not exactly the type to put up a fight. So why did the robbers react so violently and efficiently?
  • Why have the Belgian police not released a description of the attackers? Would this not be of help, especially when the police have involved INTERPOL?
  • Europe and Brussels are surveillance camera crazy. Is there any video of the incident?
  • One family member stated that Mockford was, “always tight-lipped about what he did.” So what did he do exactly? ExxonMobil has stated that Mockford was employed as a head of marketing for ‘green fuels.’ Why did the family source believe he was assassinated?

Was an ExxonMobil executive assassinated in Brussels?

I do not pretend to be a trained police officer, but it seems obvious from this side of the Atlantic, that when the police are baffled and actively seeking the public’s help in finding the killers, perhaps it may seem buffoonish to wait two weeks before any wide reporting on an almost unheard-of murder, not to mention the lack of any description. Two men, one carrying a motorcycle helmet? That’s really the best they can come up with?

Almost two weeks after the murder, Belgian authorities have been silent about most of their theories, but admitted they are actively pursuing the possibility that Mr. Mockton was targeted. Belgian conspiracy websites are apparently awash with theories, with everything from simple robbery gone wrong, to personal assassination, to Mockford’s work with ExxonMobil. I’m sure there are more than a few New-World-Order-ish evil multi-national corporation competition theories as well.

Nicholas Mockford had worked for ExxonMobil since the 1970s, according to the company. He was 60 years old.

So what do you think? Robbery gone wrong, or something more sinister?

To clean and efficent, unless car jackers and street thugs are getting quality training now!  Blackout also brings up questions.  Probably will never know except for the two who shot him.  When they turn up dead it will get real interesting.

@Hasbeen Thats an interesting point that there was 2 assailants. This was a cake walk assasination for a solo gal/guy to yank off. Why 2? To throw the scent towards a thug deal and not a hit? 2 involved means a different flavor, meaning 2 mouths to potentially squak instead of 1 with an airtight reputation and an excellent history. Unless they are airtight assasins, they might end up swimming with the fish. Partnerships can last in this type of business though. Wait N See.

Jindal Poly ended up getting the BOPP deal quickly after his death. http://www.vccircle.com/news/2012/10/26/jindal-poly-films-acquire-global-bopp-business-exxonmobil

@rrisc That is interesting. But I think our man that went down would have been delighted with the aquisition. A 500 million dollar deal is small, a hit like this, shows something of bigger deal/trigger. They were lucky to offload that sector. Just my opinion.

rrisc
rrisc 5pts like.author.displayName like.author.displayName 2 Like

it is a bigger situation then the BOPP deal but at the same time that is just one of several deals that rapidly changed after his death. Jindal Polly is not a heavy weight compared to the Russian firms competing. Also a few months ago the head of Belgian Inteligence brought up that there are more SVR in his country then there were during the cold war. @JHR

JHR
JHR 5pts like.author.displayName 1 Like

@rrisc That was sorta what I was alluding to with the CIA and MI6. The SVR and FSB are in the mix as well. And if we are talking Russians, we are talking weapons. And with Exxon, there was a Suadi connection which MI6 wants badly having to do with weapons. I won't say it outloud, but this is an Intel piece of work-an intricate puzzle which our man down was involved in. Just my uneducated opinion.

BK: Thank You for bringing up this story. I found it to be interesting. I don't know a whole lot, but here are the dots I see right now. It was a hit. It may have been an internal hit. I believe (my opinion only) that  Mockford had contact at some point with the CIA. I also think he had Contact with MI6. Anyone who knows, there may be a bit of friction between our relationship w/the UK that was once so strong. Its gotten chilly the past few years. MI6 has been concerned about issues with the Saudis, Guns I believe. But Exxon is heavily invested under Saudi Aramco Mobil Refinery Company Ltd. (SAMREF).

SAMREF is an equally owned joint venture between Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) and Mobil Yanbu Refining Company Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation). Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) is the worlds largest oil producing and exporting company and was established by Royal Decree in 1988.

This story is so deep and I have heard very little about it outside loose chatter containing non sequiturs, i.e. pig latin. Nobody is talking. If we want the story, follow the oil, the guns and what his latest project was. He also came across something that was obviously not lucrative to somebody. 2 points. 1) They knew his location-ambushed him 2)they left the wife alive-I think she does not know shit

An Interesting/bizarre statement in the article was when the son (was it the son), mentioned something about blackmail out of the blue. Right there, look in that direction. What a bizarre statement, if he said it.

Please consider the source. The Daily Mail is often filled with stories that are mendacious, sensationalist, etc. It's one of the bottom feeders in the UK.

European, and Canadian courts can impose gag orders while investigating cases, mostly in an effort to stop the exploitation of a case, or to prevent it from becoming sensationalist in nature. It's not meant to hide or deceive... Just think of the three ring circus that enveloped the Casey Anthony trial, the O.J. Simpson case, the Travyon Martin investigation, etc. It all comes out eventually.... but our courts tend to err on the side of caution, to try and protect the rights of both of victims and the accused, as well as to protect the integrity of investigation.

@ArcticWarrior  @ariaminp The Daily Mail is not generally known for its truthfulness, or journalistic integrity.  It's peddling gossip tarted up as infotainment, and they are in the business of faux news, a lot like Fox and Friends.  If I want to know who Kim Kardashian is shagging, or what celebrity wears diapers for shits and giggles, I buy the Daily Mail. Basically it's the KFC of news.

They trump up stories that have no basis in reality, and they also fan the flames of homophobia, racism, sexism, etc. The Daily Mail usually has a couple of recurring themes:Immigrants: Very scary and stealing all of our jobs. Please go back to (insert country here).

The NHS (National Health Service) is refusing care for (insert disease here). We are all going to die!

Europe: they are taking our jobs, ruining our economy, and telling us how to live our lives. Bad things happen there. Avoid visiting or moving there as you will die a miserable death. (insert Mockford case)

Gays: Run for your lives. You could catch the gay virus and become gay too!

The Guardian story that broke the News of the World scandal wide open was meticulously researched, fact checked, investigated, etc. over many years. When Alan Rusbridger couldn't gain any traction in the UK, he took his story to Bill Keller at the New York Times, and they finally got people to go on the record after many more months of meticulous research. I'm not saying the the Daily Mail never prints articles that have value, or that are true. But all things being equal, most of what they print is complete shite that is not worth the paper it is printed on.

A  Little sensational bit of story and the press was complicit and guilty of the crime and coverup, which the authorities helped with. So just because the source is sensationalist they should not be discounted, the Guardian wasnt believed initially either.

Most of European "homegrown terrorist" orgs have gone to ground it seems(... they hate getting hunted down and being held accountable, or getting collected in bags)-but that doesn't count them out either , maybe just wisely not claiming responsibility publicly anymore. They keep a much tighter lid on their news orgs over there(like the current admnistration here?) as well, with all the porosity in borders anymore-it could've been anyone.Be interesting to see where this goes....

Is this a chance that any part of this narrative was lost in translation?  French to English is fairly straight forward, but I think the language issue (not to mention British press sensationalism), combined with our unique perspective and understanding of how typical American police investigations unfold could account for some of the reasons that it does not seem to all add up.

@Love_n_Respect It's definitely possible, but I tried to find as much information as I could. What I can say is that the Brits are equally baffled by the Belgians'  (lotta Bs there) tendency to not share anything with the press. If you watch the video report at the telegraph link, the reporter all but calls them stupid. The BBC did a video report as well with a french-speaking reporter.... what I'm saying is, Hell if I know.

    • In the IDF, 'Lonely Soldier' is a term that describes soldiers serving on active duty who have no family is Israel. These are volunteers that came to serve for 3-5 years. They typically go back to their respective countries upon completion. Most commonly, these are people who immigrated to Israel by themselves. I was one of them. While in Israel, I lived in an apartment building where the majority of people were lonely soldiers. It was located on the outer ring of Jerusalem, surrounded by four Arab villages. My roommates were two recon guys (like me) and one who worked in field intel. All of the other inhabitants were soldiers from various units, with most of them serving a combat role. It was a well known thing, especially to the Arabs in the village. Most of the time we wouldn't be there, but when we were on leave, we would come to the apartment for a little R&R. It was rare that the four of us were there at the same time, but once in a blue moon, it did happen. Each village had, as is customary, its own mosque. When the time for prayer came, the loudspeakers would call out to the faithful. It was OK, we were used to it. However, over the weekend they would make it a point to play the call to prayer very, and I mean VERY, loud. They knew soldiers would be in the building trying to get some sleep - recovering from several weeks in the field. This always annoyed me but there was nothing I could do. On this particular weekend, after an intense seven weeks of non-stop ops, all I wanted was to go to the apartment, sleep, eat, sleep some more and then sleep again. That weekend the four of us were at the apartment and we were all equally tired. We arrived Thursday night and after a small dinner and some beers, we went to sleep. At 0400 we all jumped.... The freaking loudspeakers at all four mosques began their call to prayer at full blast. Fuck.... We spent the remainder of the day trying to rest and every time we would fall asleep, again... The call for prayers, full blast! Over lunch, we all looked at each other and knew this had to stop. We came up with a plan. I know it wasn't nice, but at that point we couldn't care less about political correctness. Here's what we did. After some recon that night, we noticed that the call to prayer wasn't performed by an Imam or some other person with a microphone. It was a tape recorder that used a tape. We figured the four of us, experts in stealthy infils, could sneak in and steal those tapes. However, while we were planning the different infil routes for each village, we all smiled and did something better. We recorded Metallica's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' on repeat on all four tapes and then waited till midnight. At midnight, each one of us - armed with a Metallica tape - headed to a different village. All dressed in black, we were careful not to be seen. We entered into the buildings and exchanged the tapes. We rallied back to the exfil point, a crossroad not far from the last village and headed back to our apartment. And then we waited... At 0350 we went to the roof with some coffee, opened some field chairs and waited for the show to begin. At 0400 sharp the first "call" came alive, full volume: Make his fight On the hill in the early day Constant chill deep inside ... Take a look To the sky Just before you die It's the last time he will Followed by the next, then the 3rd and 4th joined in. Full volume Metallica! Soon after, we heard sirens headed to the villages.
