Radical Al-Qaeda Operative Freed in the UK

by Iassen Donov · November 14, 2012 · Posted In: SOF News
Abu Qatada Freed in the UK
Palestinian native Abu Qatada (aka Omar Mahmoud Othman) was freed from prison by British authorities today when courts ruled against deporting him to Jordan where he faces charges in connection to terrorist  plots in 1999 and 2000. The British government initially arrested Qatada in 2002 but has held no trial against him for the better part of a decade. He has funded terrorists in Chechnya, he was a spiritual adviser to Richard Reid (the shoe bomber), Zacarias Moussaoui (a replacement hijacker for the 9/11 attacks) and for Mohammed Atta, the ringleader of the 9/11 hijackers.

I feel as if this is a common trend in the United Kingdom; they’ll spend millions of dollars on surveillance cameras to become the most watched nation in the world. But when they do catch a radical terrorist, they’ll just release him a couple years down the road.

The perfect replacement for another major Al-Qaeda spiritual adviser and recruiter, Anwar al-Awlaki (killed in a CIA drone strike September 2011). This is yet another terrorist freed by what seems to be an inept British judicial system.

  • Mohammed Junaid Babar, an American citizen who trained the 7/7 suicide bombers was released after a little more than 4 years in prison
  • Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the Lockerbie bomber
  • Saajid Badat, plotted to blow up an airliner with a shoe bomb; released after 8 years in prison.

The British government even accepted a major Al-Qaeda operative, Binyam Mohamed, after charges were dropped against him and he was released from Gitmo. The British courts ruled that Binyam had been subjected to “cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment by the United States authorities”, he was compensated £1 million and he currently enjoys a carefree life in the UK. Binyam and another house hold name, Jose Padilla, were the ones who planned to set off dirty bombs in the U.S. following the 9/11 attacks.

Good job guys, keep it coming. Hopefully these guys fall back into their old habits in the Middle East and find themselves on the receiving end of a CIA-fired Hellfire missile.

We must stay committed to fight evil globally. Pretty tough to do while cutting 1 trillion in military spending.

This story is straight from HBO's "Homeland" and Showtime's "Sleep Cell", it's really simple, they let him go so they go follow him to the head honcho, the big bird. Remember how they found Al-Megrahi? This stuff works... really.

from Egypt, thus leaving Israel hanging?  And what will be our stance??

Now the Brits let this asswipe free??  I want to deport myself, where to go....6

As one of our Allies I really wanted to give the Brits some benefit of doubt.  BUT the more stories like this that come out it's easy to see that Islam has gotten their poison tentacles deeply embeded and that the UK is bending over and taking it in the rear from this radical religion.  The only hope is that someone is able to take this turd ball out and make this world a safer place.  Unfortunately much like the cock roach though they find a deep, dark, dirty hole to hide in and only come out to cause havoc!  Hope the Brits wake up soon before they find themselves taken over and converted to a Muslim Country.

The answer to "why was he released" is in the first 2 sentences.  He's been incarcerated for ten plus years, and they have not gotten their act together on a trial.  This would be the same reasoning our very own Supreme Court uses when the government comes before it and says "listen, we have no evidence, just a bunch of hearsay, some results of torture, and wild guesses but we'd really like to lock this guy up and throw away the key."  In Qatada's case, they attempted extradition to Jordan, but could not prove to the courts satisfaction that he would not be tortured.

Of course we can sit here and say "look at that picture, definite bad guy requiring of 7.62 solution," and I'm pretty sure he's a terrorizer.  But in the same way that our own government sort of sucks at terrorist prosecutions (other then FBI entrapment of citizens into throw away cases), the British checks-and-balances continue to lean away from letting their security services do whatever they want (despite having far greater LEGAL powers then our own).

Also, somebody addressed the CIA extraordinary rendition Hassan Nasr (spelling, pretty sure that was his name).  That operation involved over 2 dozen people, was insanely sloppy, and cracked by the Italian police within days.  Not exactly America's best work when it comes to clandestine operations.  But if back in 2002 he had vanished into a CIA blacksite, only to reappear at GITMO in 2008, he would be off the world stage.  That window was missed, and now those pesky due process issues will not go away.

I'm sorry, but this should come as no surprise. The Brits have gone PC to the extreme. Anything action against Islam there is considered racism. If you check the stats, the most popular baby's name in England is Mohammed. And I'm not trying to be an insensitive redneck... The reality is that the Jihad has been successful in England. The UK is now an outpost of Islamic Empire. The Muslim Brotherhood has their tentacles deep in Uk parliament. I don't expect them to partner with the US in the near future on anything that might offend their fastest growing population bloc.

@Romadave I don't think it is political correctness per se but rather a deliberate divide and conquer strategy created by certain sectors of the British government to build election campaigns on by using a wedge issue to propel themselves into political office.

@JackMurphyRGR You are undoubtably right. I was just hoping to credit their naïveté instead of their willing political cynicism. I don't mind political pandering to a demographic. That's what politicians do. But it's disturbingly dangerous to pander to a group that is hellbent on killing you.

    • In the IDF, 'Lonely Soldier' is a term that describes soldiers serving on active duty who have no family is Israel. These are volunteers that came to serve for 3-5 years. They typically go back to their respective countries upon completion. Most commonly, these are people who immigrated to Israel by themselves. I was one of them. While in Israel, I lived in an apartment building where the majority of people were lonely soldiers. It was located on the outer ring of Jerusalem, surrounded by four Arab villages. My roommates were two recon guys (like me) and one who worked in field intel. All of the other inhabitants were soldiers from various units, with most of them serving a combat role. It was a well known thing, especially to the Arabs in the village. Most of the time we wouldn't be there, but when we were on leave, we would come to the apartment for a little R&R. It was rare that the four of us were there at the same time, but once in a blue moon, it did happen. Each village had, as is customary, its own mosque. When the time for prayer came, the loudspeakers would call out to the faithful. It was OK, we were used to it. However, over the weekend they would make it a point to play the call to prayer very, and I mean VERY, loud. They knew soldiers would be in the building trying to get some sleep - recovering from several weeks in the field. This always annoyed me but there was nothing I could do. On this particular weekend, after an intense seven weeks of non-stop ops, all I wanted was to go to the apartment, sleep, eat, sleep some more and then sleep again. That weekend the four of us were at the apartment and we were all equally tired. We arrived Thursday night and after a small dinner and some beers, we went to sleep. At 0400 we all jumped.... The freaking loudspeakers at all four mosques began their call to prayer at full blast. Fuck.... We spent the remainder of the day trying to rest and every time we would fall asleep, again... The call for prayers, full blast! Over lunch, we all looked at each other and knew this had to stop. We came up with a plan. I know it wasn't nice, but at that point we couldn't care less about political correctness. Here's what we did. After some recon that night, we noticed that the call to prayer wasn't performed by an Imam or some other person with a microphone. It was a tape recorder that used a tape. We figured the four of us, experts in stealthy infils, could sneak in and steal those tapes. However, while we were planning the different infil routes for each village, we all smiled and did something better. We recorded Metallica's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' on repeat on all four tapes and then waited till midnight. At midnight, each one of us - armed with a Metallica tape - headed to a different village. All dressed in black, we were careful not to be seen. We entered into the buildings and exchanged the tapes. We rallied back to the exfil point, a crossroad not far from the last village and headed back to our apartment. And then we waited... At 0350 we went to the roof with some coffee, opened some field chairs and waited for the show to begin. At 0400 sharp the first "call" came alive, full volume: Make his fight On the hill in the early day Constant chill deep inside ... Take a look To the sky Just before you die It's the last time he will Followed by the next, then the 3rd and 4th joined in. Full volume Metallica! Soon after, we heard sirens headed to the villages. I don't know what happened after that, but we had our own private concert, right there. No kidding, there I was... Metallica call to prayer
