With the recent shooting in Connecticut the entire World continues to watch in horror. How can one of the greatest countries on earth continue to allow active shooters to reign down their terror?

There’s much to be done to combat this issue, including gun laws that make sense. The NRA needs to take a leadership position and propose some gun legislation that would make sense, and make a difference.

Licensing would be a start. If the NRA fails to take a leadership role they will become their own version of the Sierra Club, an organization with a fancy charter but politically polarized and not helpful. They just fight the opposition without putting realistic solutions on the table.

Enjoy our #1 post of the year, and think about some viable solutions to what has become an epidemic in America: the Active Shooter.

Navy SEAL Lessons Learned From Aurora Colorado

As I continue to read about the terrible tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, I can’t help but think there’s some lessons from my time as a Navy SEAL that I can pass on to the average citizen. I want to make sure that the victims of the Aurora do not suffer or die in vain. As a country, we need to learn from this tragedy, raise awareness, and save lives in the future. So here goes…

Don’t Make Yourself an Easy Target

When at sporting events, concerts, and the movies, choose seats that give you a tactical advantage always.  What do I mean? Choose seats that allow good and east vantage points and a hasty exit point.  Always stack the odds in your favor. It’s the reason I still combat park (back in to a space) and sit with my back to the wall when I’m eating.

Active Shooter Scenario Advice

Take cover and not concealment.  Concealment hides, cover hides AND protects.  It’s the difference between hiding behind a movie seat or a concrete wall.

Don’t lie there with your eyes closed and get shot. Think and move.  In these situations you have to take charge and get in the mindset of self-rescue. You cannot wait for first-responders – it takes too long. A good decision executed quickly is better than a great one never executed. Violence of action, as we call it in the Spec Ops community, will often change the odds in your favor.

For close quarter combat drills we’d draw a gun with someone over 20 feet away running at us.  In most cases you can be on someone before they can draw and take a shot.  I’m not advocating running straight at someone but if you have the tactical advantage (jam, re-loading, distraction or the shooter isn’t paying attention) then take the shooter down or get the hell out of there. Remember that a moving target is extremely hard to hit, even for the well-trained shooter. Deal with the situation with your eyes wide open.

I guess I'm going to have to quit messing around and get my reloading up to speed.  Put it off for years, but ammo is harder to find than an ice cream sandwich in Rosie O'Donnell's house.

Of course... that's only if I had guns or ammo, which I don't because they were all stolen by bears wearing clown costumes.  Not much you can do when that happens.

@Tango9  That Rosie comment is pretty damn funny.

Ammo is scarce up here as well.  Last week I bought 1K rounds of 223 for $700!!  WTF!  They only had five boxes of a thousand rounds left in stock.

Now I've gotta figure out where I'm gonna "lose" 'em at.

@TKW406 got it a few years ago.  I've always wanted one and finally saved up my pennies.  Set me back $1800.  Match barrel, I've only taken her out once.  Put a nightforce scope on her.  Once it warms up a little I'll get her back out to the range at Ft Carson.

Did buy a cheap stock ($200) to replace the wood, but 10 hours later with a dremmel and a LOT of cussin' and I still can't get it to seat.  Might have to just break down and get a MacMillan.

@Tango9  I hear ya maybe wanting to sell a couple items.  Very tempting.  If you can ever find your shit.

How do you like your M1A? I was really debating on my last purchase about "AR" or M1A.  I've only heard good things but they are pricey.

@TKW406 LOL.  Didn't mean to "neener neener" you.  My phone has been ringing over the last week from friends who put it off as well.  They're telling the same stories about $60 mags.  That's just insane.

I have (cough... HAD) 10 mags for my bushmaster, and 3x20 2x10 for my M1A.  4x15 for my 9mm Glock, 3x15 for the Baretta, 3x12 for the P229.

Before the damn bear clowns made off with them, that is.

Hell, I'm ready to sell a couple of the .223 mags just to make my money back.

Committing a felony makes sense for that Prop. The article that Txazz posted talked about a misdemeanor case, and that doesn't seem to be covered, even though they were trying to use that law.

his is very interesting:

County Sheriffs Can Block Federal Gun Control

http://godfatherpolitics.com/8806/county-sheriffs-can-block-federal-gun-control/

But did you know that no matter what gun control laws are passed by the federal government, they can only be enforced in your area if your county sheriff allows them to be.

I have to ammend my wording to if you are CONVICTED in the act of a felony. Big diff between arrested and convicted. You can be arrested and unsentenced, and win your case, therefore no felony committed. Then the provision would not apply as you were not convicted and you could still bring suit. But if you are convicted, no lawsuit. Either way this tweeker attempted to break into multiple residences according to the witness in the video, got what was coming, so I dont think charges are coming.

There may be but the Prop limits the right to even bring the suit if you were in the act of committing a felony. It passed at 80%. Here is the full wording.

Cant believe the amount of tracers in the sky with carriers under attack.  The JAP....and panoramic shots of the dead bloated carcasses...media would never attempt that today. Good archival stuff.

    • In the IDF, 'Lonely Soldier' is a term that describes soldiers serving on active duty who have no family is Israel. These are volunteers that came to serve for 3-5 years. They typically go back to their respective countries upon completion. Most commonly, these are people who immigrated to Israel by themselves. I was one of them. While in Israel, I lived in an apartment building where the majority of people were lonely soldiers. It was located on the outer ring of Jerusalem, surrounded by four Arab villages. My roommates were two recon guys (like me) and one who worked in field intel. All of the other inhabitants were soldiers from various units, with most of them serving a combat role. It was a well known thing, especially to the Arabs in the village. Most of the time we wouldn't be there, but when we were on leave, we would come to the apartment for a little R&R. It was rare that the four of us were there at the same time, but once in a blue moon, it did happen. Each village had, as is customary, its own mosque. When the time for prayer came, the loudspeakers would call out to the faithful. It was OK, we were used to it. However, over the weekend they would make it a point to play the call to prayer very, and I mean VERY, loud. They knew soldiers would be in the building trying to get some sleep - recovering from several weeks in the field. This always annoyed me but there was nothing I could do. On this particular weekend, after an intense seven weeks of non-stop ops, all I wanted was to go to the apartment, sleep, eat, sleep some more and then sleep again. That weekend the four of us were at the apartment and we were all equally tired. We arrived Thursday night and after a small dinner and some beers, we went to sleep. At 0400 we all jumped.... The freaking loudspeakers at all four mosques began their call to prayer at full blast. Fuck.... We spent the remainder of the day trying to rest and every time we would fall asleep, again... The call for prayers, full blast! Over lunch, we all looked at each other and knew this had to stop. We came up with a plan. I know it wasn't nice, but at that point we couldn't care less about political correctness. Here's what we did. After some recon that night, we noticed that the call to prayer wasn't performed by an Imam or some other person with a microphone. It was a tape recorder that used a tape. We figured the four of us, experts in stealthy infils, could sneak in and steal those tapes. However, while we were planning the different infil routes for each village, we all smiled and did something better. We recorded Metallica's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' on repeat on all four tapes and then waited till midnight. At midnight, each one of us - armed with a Metallica tape - headed to a different village. All dressed in black, we were careful not to be seen. We entered into the buildings and exchanged the tapes. We rallied back to the exfil point, a crossroad not far from the last village and headed back to our apartment. And then we waited... At 0350 we went to the roof with some coffee, opened some field chairs and waited for the show to begin. At 0400 sharp the first "call" came alive, full volume: Make his fight On the hill in the early day Constant chill deep inside ... Take a look To the sky Just before you die It's the last time he will Followed by the next, then the 3rd and 4th joined in. Full volume Metallica! Soon after, we heard sirens headed to the villages. I don't know what happened after that, but we had our own private concert, right there. No kidding, there I was... Metallica call to prayer
