The quality of this video is astonishing, as is the gritty realism of the narrator’s lines…actually, not so much, but if you’re interested at all in the history of that breed of Air Commando known as Combat Weathermen (now frequently referred to as Special Operations Weatherman) it’s worth watching. Though we’ve had personnel performing the functions of Combat Weathermen since WWII, it wasn’t until 2008 that the Air Force established an AFSC (Air Force Specialty Code) for Special Operations Weather personnel “formally recognizing their commitment to deploy into restricted environments by air, land, or sea to conduct weather operations, observe and analyze all environmental data…”
This official military history documentary dates from 1968. Check it out. Some of you who went to school in the 70s and early 80s will find this format eerily familiar (and perhaps less than exhilarating), but it is interesting.
