Syrian Rebels Trained by U.S. Advisors in Jordan?

Syrian Rebels Trained by U.S. Advisors in Jordan?
CNN and other media sources have just run a news story regarding the training of Syrian fighters in neighboring Jordan by United States personnel.

From CNN:

“Syrian rebels claim that hundreds of their fighters are being given sophisticated-weapons training organized and authorized by the United States at a camp in Jordan.”

Verification of this story is tough as the source is an anonymous spokesperson for the rebels, and when asked by White House reporters on this claim, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney simply stated that the U.S. does not “provide lethal aid to the Syrian opposition.”

Could he be telling the truth? Possibly. Could he have no idea what the truth is? Even more plausible.

Military personnel conduct fast rope infiltration at KASOTC.

Military personnel conduct fast rope infiltration at KASOTC.

What I can tell you for certainty is the existence of the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center, or KASOTC, located just North of Amman, Jordan and a mere forty miles from the Syrian border. For those of you not familiar with KASOTC, it is the number one special operations training center in the entire Middle East. The development of the facility itself was instigated by SOCCENT (U.S. Special Operations Command – Central) in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Since the training center opened its doors in 2009, the group responsible for providing the training cadre and course material was not the Department of Defense but actually a private organization out of Maryland by the name of ViaGlobal Group. The two-dozen or so training cadre are all private contractors who almost exclusively come from the U.S. Army Special Forces and Delta Force communities.

I came across this small job responsibility tidbit through a LinkedIn profile of a former U.S. Special Forces soldier who was employed under ViaGlobal Group in Jordan:

“Instruct, Consult and prepare POI for the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center and the Jordanian Army Special Forces. Instruct and serve as both a Primary and Assistant Instructor for Select Jordanian Special Forces candidates in a multitude of SOF skill sets; to include Small Unit Tactics, Survival, Heavy Weapons, CAS, Basic/Advanced Demolitions, Explosive and Mechanical Breaching, Combat Rifle and Pistol Marksmanship, Rotary Aircraft Infiltration Techniques, Close Quarter Battle, MDMP Planning, Intelligence Gathering, and other matters relevant to Unconventional Warfare Techniques. This three phase program was modeled on the U.S. Army Special Forces Qualification Course. Specifically Responsible for Consultation to Senior Jordanian Officers on the most current Special Operations Doctrine and training development concerning, Weapons Skills and Equipment, Explosive Breaching, Special Operations Planning, and methods insuring the integrity of Program Quality.”

Is it possible that three hundred Syrian rebel fighters were trained by U.S. personnel at KASOTC? In my opinion, absolutely. The location of the training center itself is a former mining quarry outside of the prying eyes of the civilian population in Amman.

KASOTC - U.S. run special operations training facility 40 miles from Syrian border.

I just got a Breaking News report that 'there is a high probability' Syria used chemical weapons against the rebels.   I seem to remember a statement from the US that use of chemical weapons would be considered unacceptable.  One wonders how the US will respond.

AUNITEDPEOPLE
AUNITEDPEOPLE 5pts like.author.displayName 1 Like

@StormR

Just heard on Fox News that it might be a chlorine weapon, which is classified as a "class 3" chemical weapon, giving Assad "wiggle room" when it comes the use of chemical weapons. Also, in seeing the victims of the attack, they appeared to have no visible sign of chemical weapons symptoms. So we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.It would be a dumb move for Assad, and a sly tactic for the ‘rebels’ to get more countries involved on their side.

Personally, I haven’t seen enough proof and I don’t trust either side, so I believe you will see a ‘wait and see’ approach from the US, which I believe is warranted at this early stage. The current admin did say what you stated, but I wouldn’t trust them to live up to anything that they spout these days, except maybe use ‘harsher’ language and wave the stick around a bit.

I'm trying mightily to wrap my mind around the idea that Jordan would train and equip these folks knowing the possibility that it could seriously go sideways.  Look at what happened last year in Bahrain when the Shia rose up, huge crack down from the govt, now what's happening?  Serious resentment, a festering open wound among the populace.  Does Jordan really want to add fuel to the fire?  I'm of the opinion that Jordan is one of the few moderate Arab states in the region and we need to do all we can to keep them stable.  It's almost like trying to teach a pilot how to land for the first time, but setting the plane on fire.  Your just setting him up to fail.

@Old PH2 @ArcticWarrior I LOVE IT! Thank You. I know this first hand to be "truth". Marriage is for love, so much love it conquers their soul. (for example-UBL and his 1st wife whom he sent away for protection and supposedly divorced-not true on the divorce). However, marriage is finel coordinated and tuned and matched for specific needs. Sometimes for geographic reasons, sometimes for intelligent women to handle certain tasks-even financial to keep an arms length from the group. And then, there are the devout women who actually marry into influential families of wealth, power and most importantly-Political. They then shuttle intel back to the commanders via a network of women. Women play an enormous role in the Global Jihadi Fight. And all this time, expensive intelligence reports portray women as subserviant. Not in This Fight. TY PH!!!

J to me it seems like a lot of these Syrian rebel groups are "for sale", and what happens when foreigners within the ranks of the rebels proclaim themselves as "leaders" in any post-Assad Govt?

If I was King Abdullah, Israel and any member of the House of Saud Id be keeping a watchful eye on the players in Syria, especially the foreigners....

@ArcticWarrior Maybe they are mercenary in character. Some of the footage I've seen, are men in flip-flops and T-shirts manning tanks in combat against Maher and his Syrian Army. Of course, the Global Jihadis are in the mix. Per their usual stye, this is how they get "into and control" in a Country. Via conflict. We know the beginning of the Eqypt uprisings were a little seeds from USA a decade ago, then allot of AQ seeds when the dissent showed up.

To answer you, post-assad- if it happens is literally up for grabs. We have no idea how this is going to turn out. I am interested in hearing Jordans King Speak. I think he is wise. As far as eyes on the players, I think we might have the best "in" we've ever had. Its' ike a front row seat at the NRF in Vegas. You can see everything and everyone. BBC has a guy on the ground thats taken some excellent footage. BTW, you do know there have been attempts to overthrow Jordan in the past 6 months. I believe, they are fatigued and fighting to keep control.

We're gearing up for the post-Assad civil war, between the secularists and the Islamists, just like Northern Alliance VS Taliban in the 90s. I agree with @JHR assessment, nothing really new here. Problem I have with it all is, it seems like we haven't learned from our mistakes in the past, and this will eventually come back to bite us yet again... Failure begins at the top and trickles down to the bottom, or shit rolls downhill. We should have been way out in front of this before it ever got to this point (failure at the top), so now we're back to our old tricks of training rebels on the sly (shit rolling downhill), and to what end, hard to tell right now, but worse case, we've armed people who hate us, and when if they win and stop hating each other, then they will start hating us again, only this time as with a country (and all of it's goodies) behind them.

Leading from behind and backwards, you're bound to get one rammed up in ya... Just saying.

Once again, we've made a deal with a Devil. This Devil being perceived as a better choice than another deal and Devil . Reports came in within the last year that we were arming Syrian Rebels trying to overthrow Bashar. The regime in Syria is violent, the people need help. Maher may be our ultimate target as his influence is deep in the Syrian Army and he supposedly runs amok with Military decisions he makes on his own.

This situation is nothing new. The U.S. have been arming, training and helping countries in need when their social systems breakdown. Right niw,SOF are listed in over 60 Countries training those countries in need.

Syria needs our help, they have it and there are other reasons to get the Bathe party shut down. Bashar may use chem weapons. If we sit back and ignore this, I do not think we could live with the genocide knowing we had done nothing.

However, the Devil within this Devil deal, are the terrorists that have joined the syrian rebels, who command some of them and who have inserted "for the good of Syria". We know, "their good for Syria" only means getting a toe hold into Syria to do what they do. To take control of a country.

So we train and arm those we support  in a conflict, what about the terrorists amongst them? This is a known problem. Hell, we trained UBL, he worked with CIA contacts, He traveled on a trip or two back in the early 80's with U.S. Personnel. Through our mistakes, we have learned a bit. Libya, how we helped in that conflict, came back to bite us. We are raw from this, but we learned something. Any  terrorists who is stupid enough to go  through KASOTC gets earmarked. One thing folks might not think about, is that we have had little access to mingle with terrorists on their turf, we do not blend. If some of SOF and other agencies are blended in with the fight via these training camps, we are going to get eyes and intel that we were never able to reach on this access level before.

The titles coming out that "U.S. is aiding Terrorists" is a sentence written by someone who has no idea of the art, comlexity nor tactics of war. We need to get these targets, thats the mission. These training cams run by us or allies, our equipment run b y us, is an "in" that is invaluable. Just my Opinion.

The United States show impotence in the absence of a clear line of diplomacy is not observing the agreements signed. Most of the militants of the so-called FSA is not the Syrians. Deserters in Syria were and are, but very little. Called foreign fighters Syrians - it is a propaganda trick of the West. Even at the very beginning of the conflict, when in the ranks of the FSA had a lot of the Syrians, they announced their merger with the cells of al-Qaida. Then indigenous Syrians became the substitute, throw in the heat of the remained, mainly, of the foreign mercenaries who are fighting only for the money, who Rob the house, raped women. The longer the duration of the conflict, the less of indigenous Syrians in the ranks of the FSA, the more terrorist attacks by the militants. The terrorists have not received  support in Syria.   The remnants of the Syrian armed opposition should unite its efforts with the army Bashar al-Assad and together withstand the locust terrorists, which continues  destroy this country. This will be an important step on the path to national reconciliation. All the rest can be resolved then. Including the fate of Bashar al-Assad. For this purpose there are elections. In contrast to the United States, the President of Syria chooses people a direct vote. In the US people only participate in the elections, but not to choose.

-You said you live in Western Siberia. You see I am half Russian for seriously. West. Siberia is in the middle of Russia. Now if you are Russian, as you say!  How the F*** do you have internet in a region where it isn't booming that much, perhaps industrially it is, definitely doesnt have a large consumer booms on electronics. Name me your internet provider that you use ? If you don't live in Siberia, don't bother.

You wrote that you live in a town, I'll tell what a town is : "A town is a human settlement larger than a village but smaller than a city " !! Now how could you have internet in a village in middle of Siberia.  Its not Moscow where you can have internet in a villa in a rural place. But a town in Siberia ? no way.  Pure Geographical error.

The way you write shows that you have bad english, therefore you write in Russian. But somehow mostly all the links, are in perfect english. Therefore if you were a true Russian, you would try to be precise, many people say that english is not their first language, at their bottom of their comment/s. Therefore you consciously write all of those errors pretending to be a Russian guy.

Now if you lived in Siberia and said  "that I live in a city, Region SIBERIA ", I would have given a second thought to your answer. The post's such as balalaika  you posted has nothing to do with the subject we are talking. Thats pure waffling. Weirdly,  I founded it on Amerikanski novosti ( american news). No other news sources ????

Below in previous posts when a OP wanted an answer from you. You wrote " later I have to work". This was around 11Pm Floridian time for me. The live  time at that moment in Siberia was 10am. Most people start work from 7am or 8am and honestly, people are not going to sit on the internet during working hours. Plus nobody wants to put their details in work computers as it isn't secure as your home PC/ nbook. Unbelievable.  Thus explains that you don't live in Siberia.

Seems to me, your a guy who is maniacally in love with Russia for a very weird reason. You either live in US, and any stupid, weak, facts you it as propaganda.

You post stuff that are political, not informational, not productive. You can post as much as you want. Ignoring is the best option.

You can give reasons, excuses. Wont matter, don't care. What matters to me is that your phony !!

Nothing more to add. -------------------

Russia recognizes the Central role of the UN and the rule of international law. Russia and the USA, China, great Britain, France possesses the right of veto in this organization - it's a big responsibility. Western media often misinterpret Russia's position referring to the emotions without regard to international law. Russia does not support Bashar al-Assad. We protect international law. The principle of non-interference in the sovereign Affairs of other States. Us no matter who will be the next President in Syria. The main thing that it was the choice of the Syrian people, without outside interference. Russia has been negotiating with both the government of Bashar al-Assad, and with all opposition групировками without exception. Syrian opposition often visits Moscow.  A constructive opposition in Syria is ready for the elections without preconditions, as is prescribed in the Geneva communique.
