Not Anymore: A Story of Revolution

I am very excited to share this upcoming film with the SOFREP community. For those of you who only know of Syria by what the media has told you, here is a film sure to open the eyes of America. Stop all the whining about how bad you have it and imagine you were born into a land as oppressed as Syria.

The filmmaker, Matthew VanDyke, has spent all his own money to finance this film and show the world what it’s really like to live in this war-torn country. Many of you may know Matthew as a contributor to Brandon and Jack’s book Benghazi: The Definitive Report—concerning his time fighting with the rebels in Libya. Matthew has most recently spent time in Syria traveling with the rebels and filming their struggle against the Assad regime.

JackMurphyRGR Motojunky27 chipe I'm with you there.  It seems a bit dreamy and idealistic.  Americans are suckers for this notion of Democracy just springing up in the Mid-East.  But without individual liberty, limited government or a free press to support it?  It's not likely.  It's the Muslim Brotherhood version of Democracy that Egyptians are being offered. Rigged elections and then a crackdown.

JackMurphyRGR chipe I'm skeptical of Syrians having strong nationalist sentiments.. Syrians seem to identify as tribes within these coalitions and confederations that extend themselves into other gulf states as well.  So you have a Syrian like Nawaf al-Fares who was Syrian envoy to Iraq but he's also this tribal leader which has family ties to the royals in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar, which is where he defected to.   The Assad regime is like the 21st century being imposed upon a social order from the 11th century.  After Assad falls these tribal confederations with backing from patron states like Turkey, Russia, France and the various gulf states will then fight it out for dominance of what's left.  It reminds me of Scotland and Robert the Bruce trying to unite the tribes of it and Ireland around him.  He had his work out our for him.  I used to think it was a sunni-shiia-salafist conflict, which may exist but its within the tribal context I think.  It's some real Game of Thrones kind of shit over there
