LCpl x - we all engage on here. It's the main reason me and the former Kit Up team increased traffic 700% on KU in 3.5 months. We love engaging with the SOFREP community. Unfortunately I have to make a few little league games in between!
I totally understand little league games, that should take priority.
I don't know if your seeing this as game changing business site (like facebook, twitter, etc.) or
if sofrep is just a hobby. If it's a hobby and you have a legit hi speed lo drag day job, then it's totally understandable.
But to show my point, all you have to do is click on your livefyre profile and compare your comments to Jack's, one sentence posts vs. posts in paragraphs. If youre busy that's fine, you can leverage your assistants or proxies to post commentaries. But the engagement from sofrep's side should be substantial, cuz that's the reason why everyones here to get the real scoop from the real guys. You're selling yourselves.
It's like going to a strip joint and seeing all the girls do their dances on stage, they solicit private dances, if no takers they go back to the dressing room. Work the room, guys. You gotta talk to us, is what I'm trying to say.
Don't get me wrong, man, this is some moto shit, but too much postings like this will just make this site another warporn site. Let's get more stuff like Jack's stealth helos, your surefire article, that Mossad article, Bill's articles have been strong and steady too (although not as explosive as Jack's and the Mossad article). Push the envelope, man. Don't make this just another warporn site. Give us some youtube videos we can use, at work, day to day, camping, etc. etc.
Also get a designer to make your ads "fit" better to the site, man. There are some rectangular ones, square ones, I know you only have 4 or so ad spaces right now, but make it look good and make it feel organic to the site. Branding and logos make a difference, that's why Princeton Tec and Resco look good and match your site, but Escape the Wolf or Command Posts... You might want to ask them to design an ad banner that look more SOF so it looks organic to your site.
People don't want to be reminded that in a FREE web magazine like this that they are the product, so it helps if those ad banners looked more organic/SOF.
@LCpl X Oh yeah. Whatever happened to praise in public criticize via the Comms portal! LMAO.
Good feedback and I know you wouldn't have posted if you didn't care. Thanks again. -Brandon
@BrandonWebb Sorry, man. But I figure transparency's good, you want to continue to foster a nice community feel, where all points are entertained. Oh yeah, that too, take good care of the comments section, because this isn't only an web magazine, it's also a forum, so far only Jack really takes the time to engage. Youll have better discussions if you guys or your qualified proxies, or Laura participate.
The articles are just the primers, the discussion is actually why most of us are here. I wouldn't mind ad banners on the comment section, just have qualified SOF types moderating/sharing etc etc. You have an e-zine and forum guys take good care of it.
@LCpl X Understood. This stuff is just fun for us, plus it's fun to showcase some of the guys work. Good feedback overall and we'll work it. Thanks -BW
Oh yeah, also in your posting, commentaries, there seems to be a little too much "hard" sell, ie "you saw it here first!", here's my book!, click like!, brought to you by SOFREP! It sounds corny and sleazy. Ease off, man, it feels too much like you're selling something, when you've already had us at Hello.
You have a solid team, great idea, already dropping bombs, just be cool.
I've already clicked on Princeton Tec and RESCO a bunch of times, because their ad banners look appealing, although they should change it up now and then to keep it fresh.
Relax, write it, post it and let your readership spread the word. I noticed journalists on your facebook already. You guys are on track, man.
