I saw a pic where Gen. Dempsey was wearing a pair of those Google Glasses, I expect to war fighters wearing something very similar in the near future.
Just some insight into HUD tech for those interested.
We were using microoptical heads up displays for objective force/future force warrior program research in the Battle Lab at Ft. Benning in '03 (almost a decade ago). Very impressive but they were limited in their ability to show colors and performance in bright light. They were much better than the conventional land warrior monocle because you could maintain your situational awareness.

The latest tech actually beams an image directly on your retina which makes the image seem to be floating in front of you. Brightness is determined by the strength of the projection.

I was actually thinking about this the other day after seeing the trailers for the new Ghost Recon game. Some of that technology is definitely years away but Oakley's or a similar optical system with HUDs (Real time intelligence, maps, information, etc.) I could see happening. It would definitely make sense to be using something like this in combat for AAR's and for the commanders or whoever is in charge to see live first person feeds. A lot of soldiers always carry cameras with them or have them mounted but having a compact and durable system would be awesome if there isn't one already.

@JoshJames An immediate use case is video feed from overhead ISR asset. Instead of a bulky GCS, an overview in the glasses for everyone on the team. If you need higher resolution, someone can bust out the GCS with the shroud and stick their head in.
It's also relatively easy for a helmet mounted sensor to be tied into GPS and point an arrow at objective as well as blue force indicators. etc. etc.
how many spec ops people already have gadgets implanted in their bloodstream and or bodies? Each spec op person has been funded like a million dollars each just to train them, those glasses seem bulky and outdated, like something from wal-mart.

As soon as I could afford one I bought a micro video camera and carry it while on duty, mainly so I can write accurate transcriptions of conversations. But it could come in handy if I ever get cornered while on duty. Fortunately I've looked at the state privacy/ wire tap laws and this is permissible.
Reminds me of the side view mirror sunglasses that allow you to see who's following you. If you're a case officer, meaning you're working in a hostile or unfriendly environment, you wouldn't be caught dead with technology that's too obvious. That's why most case officers worth their salt still go old school.
