At 00:27 in this video, there are a few frames of a building with a pitched roof. I don't know about Parwan Province, but here in Wardak the only pitched roofs you see out in the villages (very fuck'n few) are on buildings funded by the the folks trying to win the hearts and minds.

Once I got past the horror of the story (and no, I did not watch the video), what struck me was the impossible position of these women. By religion and culture, they are limited to only two choices: submit and suffer hell on earth or fight against and face eternal damnation. My mind cannot comprehend being hemmed in by those 'choices'. There is a Cheyenne saying: A nation is conquered when the hearts of its women are on the ground. It is my most fervent hope that the Taliban have been the authors of their own doom.

@StormR Much like other repressive regimes the men women and children have all been brutalized to the point of submission. Even moderate men will not stick their neck out for fear of loosing their head. It's not just the women, the whole thing is a system designed to control every aspect of the population. Ultimately, those in power will do anything to stay in power.

@ArcticWarrior @Matt2 All do respect here but those Christians did the best that they could to incite the Muslims (who were celebrating the Arab International Festival held at that time). Rolling down the middle of the festival with a pig's head and a sign that declares Mohammed a "child molesting pervert" (that gave me a hardy chuckle) was not the best way of opening up dialogue. That said, I find it equally reprehensible that those Muslims did not listen to their other Prophet Jesus Christ and "turn and offer the other cheek". Just goes to show how prone to violence that those particular (obviouslynot just them but I will not go as far as to say "all") Muslims are. I also agree with Mr. Israel that the police were ineffectual, they did nothing according to the article. The protection afforded folks who exercise their freedom of speech via expression (in this case the Muslims resorting to stone casting) ends when that involves physical assault of the offending peoples. There should be Muslims in jail and a few of the "Bible Believers" (as they refer to themselves) should have their pee-pees whacked. You will not be able to convince me that the Christian group was trying to merely exercise their freedom to demonstrate with such awful rhetoric. Example: Westboro Baptist Church, may those bastards rot in Hell along with OBL.

You are absolutely correct about them fishing for trouble and playing the victim they were DBs, my point is two-fold. Listen to the crowds sentiments and the fact that your LEO headed by Mike Jaafa did nothing, and thats here in the US in a city with a large ME population. You think in IQ or AFG or PAK women will get justice? If you didnt hear the American dialog you would easily confuse this for AJ showing something from the ME. Look at what happened to Western female reporters in Egypt?

Deputy Chief Mike Jaafar had his guys stand around and do nothing. We just had some major high tension protests after the SCOTUS decisions and both sides while extremely passionate refrained from that sort of behavior.

Was the other group atagonizing them ,yup no doubt but listen to whats being said.

In order to put that in context, you have to realize where a woman stands in this culture (which is somewhere lower than the farm animals). If a woman is raped- it is her fault, and she is punished (mutiple news stories over this). Her word is completely invalid, if allowed, her testimony is only valid to half of a mans-in courts of law.

@JMattHicks Yeah this is a straight out honor killing. The girl if she was married,either got to friendly with these fellows, or was caught alone and ravaged by them. Since she had no male family member to protect her these guys automatically assume she is a whore to be treated as they see fit.

Her status is unimportant in their eyes. She could have been a widow, it sounded like she had children. Maybe she had no male family to help her, these guys that raped her may have caught her going to market alone. Any of these things could have happened. And since they did her headman with in the tribe she belongs to would be responsible to assure justice is met. Loose women are executed in Islam.

When my wife was a little girl in Iran her Christian family was always in fear that one of their daughters would be kidnapped, rapped and killed, or forced into marriage with some Muslim. Bad enough they where constantly groped and leered at. My brothers in law, and their uncles have some wild stories about street brawls over family honor.

1) Shoot everyone that's a threat. Saw him with an AK yesterday and he doesn't have 1 today? too bad. Shoot him

2) firebases don't work. we knew this shit since vietnam. Push through, hold, and don't let anyone in

3) if it comes from Pakistan, shoot Pakistan. Let Pakistan know that if they harbor the enemy we're coming and we don't give a shit, what are they going to do? cry? Fuck off.

4) build real allies and warriors, people that want to be free. Train them, but keep a pistol to their temple so they know that if they even LOOK like they're going to go off the rez their head becomes a canoe.

I hate to say it but this one was pretty tame. She was lucky they were merciful and shot her. Many women are stoned or hung. In Turkey I've read of girls being buried alive under chicken coops or even thrown into privies. It's not just the Taliban, it's all of Islam.

Take a look over at a true story, available on NetFlix: The Stoning of Soraya M. This is a real case of a woman that was executed in Iran sometime after the revolution. It is graphic, and it is very heartrending to see her own sons turn on her.

You who now me realize my wife was born Iranian, and I think you have some idea of my feelings. Let me give you a little insight into the Hell on earth she came through: When my wife found out she was pregnant for our first child she was very depressed. I thought it must be the hormonal changes that come with pregnancy. Then she found out we would be having a girl, I was beside myself. Nothing I could do would help assuage her depression. I finally was able to get her to talk about it. She never wanted to bring children into this Fucked up world. When she found out we where having a girl she remembered all the restrictions, oppression, and physical danger she faced as a girl.

@Old PH2 I don't know you, but i can only imagine that your wife's experience growing up as a girl in Iran would have made you more aware of crap that women face on a daily basis (and most likely made you a better father and man).

As some have pointed out on this thread, I'm not sure if you can influence and change a thousand years of brutality in a few years. What I think we can all agree on is that if we see or know of violence against women and children occurring in our own local communities, we should do something (and i know some of you are very vocal about what that "something" should be).

@SEAN SPOONTS @Tango9 Let's not forget that "human trafficking", or as I like to call it "the slave trade", is still alive and well in a lot of the developing nations across the world. Hell, Chinese authorities just busted 800 (not a misprint) human traffickers and freed 200 "indentured" peoples. Great success and all but I think that this speaks to the depth of the problem, not to specific milestone in thwarting this black market activity. I'm sure that our Muslim friends know a thing or to about how to provide logistics for such an enterprise.

The running joke (it's really not funny) was you never saw a saudi actually work a day in his life, the callouses were on the hands of the Phillpino *slaves* and the saudis' hands were usually linked with some other male saudi wearing a man dress.

It goes without saying we despised them.
