- Name: Nero
- Age: 3 years old
- Weight: 85lbs
- Breed: Black Dutch KNPV Malinois
- About: Nero is one of those dogs that has a presence to him that you notice the instant you meet him. A great mix of gentle but confident, and incredibly serious when he needs to be. He is also incredibly athletic, especially for a dog of his size. He’s cat footed in his agility, and very fast top end speed wise. He’s a fantastic working dog, and Trikos international is excited to have him. -Mike Ritland

Allwet clluelo They have those ear muffs that are great for Helo's/loud transport planes and the gun range. But I'd like to see this issue taken further. We use some advanced ear plugs on horses- to keep them calm during hazardous environments. Noises will send a horse into fight/flight. I was talking to a tech company about an ear piece for canines that could drone out gunfire and loud noises- then switch over to allowing the K-9 to hear. Their hearing is important for detection in certain situations. I depend on my dogs hearing and smelling when on task to alert me. I also want to protect them from the loud noises when they come in rapid. With all the technology out there, I think we can get something made that would work well- protect the ears and then go to normal/dormant. Our issue, was if we could do an earpiece without an implant, as the ear canal is involved. Just another crazy idea. Always thinking....
clluelo +1! The question I always forget to ask, only about 3,000x.
LauraKinCA He took my Breath away! He had me at.........:-) Just a stunning Presence.
He reminds me of a status of Anubis come to life. Beautiful, elegant, powerful. I am quite sure, however, that those ears need petted. See to it.
Mike Ritland amesmich Just got a couple chapters into the "How dogs think" book - which someone said you recommended- it's got a good chapter on the science of dog hearing- and talks specifically about impact of gun shot noise and hunting dogs. Great explanation of impact and scenarios where the dog can't naturally protect their hearing. Great book- I had to get it since I swear to my Mali is Sea Biscuit- reincarnated. With an awesome blood line- I thought for sure he'd be going ape if I didn't get him out for at least a 2 mile run each day (he's ~10 mos)--- but he's just the opposite. Kind of a lazy SOB. Some stuff will get him into TazDevil mode (me using a shovel, rake, axe, or wheel barrel), but otherwise he's a giant dork. My old lab was way more of fixated pest as a pup than this guy is.
