Can a nation be both a friend and a foe to the United States at the same time? Today we have a situation in which Iran is a de facto ally of ours in the fight against ISIS, but also a country we’re actively trying to subvert in places like Yemen. While arrangements like this leave a lot of people scratching their heads, these situations are fairly common in international relations. America can overtly or covertly support a country in one region while subverting it in another, all in accordance with American interests in these different parts of the world.

Politics. It's just politics. But how does one focus on Iran (and Russia) while simultaneously ignoring "frenemy" like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan (to mention only a couple). Why is it not possible that Rouhani could be the person to restore some sort of relationship between the US and Iran? Granted the "regime" appears to be stuck in the past, but so are a lot of Western figure-heads. I think it's way too early to call it. But it is interesting. It is equally interesting watching it play out, and how all the usual suspects are acting, believing their US patron might be switching sides, even if for political theatre. Personally, I am loving watching the Saudi's sweat it out. They personify the "friend and foe" notion - 1000000%.
Oh boy have I been wondering about this. Any elucidation will be welcome!
infinitycactus dear7655 LMAO, thanks for the morning laugh IC !! Anyone considering Iran as a BFF certainly has the IQ of 'Paris fucking Hilton'....6
dear7655 "Best Friends Forever", 7655??? Are you secretly Paris fucking Hilton? If so, feel free to fess up, now. Exactly no one, that I'm aware of- from Obama, to his most ill-witted advisors, have attempted to refer to Iran as our new BFF- until now.
The following articles talk about the U.S. trying to become Best Friends Forever with Iran in the fight against ISIS in Iraq and the negative consequences of such a relationship. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/04/world/middleeast/a-us-concession-to-reality-in-the-battle-against-islamic-state.html?smid=nytcore-ipad-share&smprod=nytcore-ipad&_r=0 https://www.commentarymagazine.com/2015/04/06/americas-cooperation-with-iran-in-iraq-has-consequences/
