“It’s not that we’re taking all of the bad stuff out of the chow hall; it’s about encouraging Marines to make good choices and try to limit the bad stuff,” said Col. Michael Watkins, director of the newly created force fitness division.

. ...Food in Marine Corps recruit training in 1968 was mediocre at best. You were alright so long as you stayed away from the greasy link sausages... (Shudder...) ...At ITR (Infantry Training Regiment... (Camp San Onofre at Camp Pendleton) the chow was the worst that I ever had in the Marine Corps. A lot of us getting over the Hong Kong flu, or had bronchitis. Forming up in the dark afterwards, our company had many men coughing up mixture of flem and nasty, runny scrambled eggs... ...At BITS (at ITR we got basic Infantry qualification of 0300... we got our specialty at BITS) by contrast... the food was wholesome and plentiful... and I "bulked up" to 140 lbs. -Yankee Papa-
if dudes were in the field training, instead of in the rear, no dietitian would be needed. They'd be burning so many calories that they would need a nice fat burger just to keep on the weight.
I figure with all the physical activity in SOI they need snacks. I certainly am not advocating taking that away. I am just curious what's in the snack line? We all deserve a good snack every once in awhile. I had one today..... Peanut butter (my favorite) until I can have almonds again....:)
not having been to SOI ... I didn't know there was a snack line ... and tbh.. they spend so much time out in the field training (or at least they used to) when not deployed I don't ever recall seeing any of the 'grunts' looking like they needed to skip the snack line .... I think they ought to start in air wing first ...just my opinion
I seriously just laughed my ass off... thought of the picture of the extra large man in fatigues laying on the treadmill that was on an article ...what six months ago.... and immediately thought about going to get a big fat jelly doughnut since I missed eating one on fat Tuesday (not sure how that happened I must have been in a coma)
