The quick-change barrel is now possible because the headspace and timing are now fixed, Thompson said.

I've worked as a small arms/artillery mechanic for the last 9 years and of all the new weapons or improvments introduced throughout my service, the M2A1 will lead to the most issues in the future. After talking to people from across the service there is the misconception that barrels don't need to be "married" to a specific receiver as with the previous M2. Though the operator level maintenance manual states that "All M2A1 barrels are interchangeable between receivers" each barrel will wear with the receiver and soon there will be a bunch of deadline weapons because each M2A1 requires 2 barrels that pass headspace to be mission ready.
Maybe the Marines are inheriting what the Army had already discarded with. ;)
Dear LPD - the year is still young. You have spent some time in Purgatory according to some of my sources so we will have to see how you behave the rest of the year. Leave your sister alone. That will be an automatic no go. Love, Santa
Exactly! wtf? Right?
Fixed headspace has been out for a while, why just now? Just give us the new higher RPM that the Helos have, I believe FN is making them M3 type. Good news, better late than never. I just didn't think we still had the ones we used in the early 90s.
