Brandon Webb, former Navy SEAL, best-selling author, and Hurricane Media CEO, appeared on Fox & Friends to discuss how counter-terrorism has changed since Osama bin Laden was killed six years ago.
On May 1, 2011 (20:00 UTC) Navy SEALs assaulted a compound in Pakistan in search of their number one target—Osama bin Laden. The well-documented mission has been detailed by movies, articles, personal accounts and other perspectives from that monumental day. Killing Osama bin Laden was a huge victory for the U.S. and marked the end of a decade-long goal to neutralize the radical jihadist.
While we won’t recount details of this event—we do want to step back and ask ourselves if we’re winning the war on terror. Is the world a safer place? Are our policies, strategies and tactics effective?
There are no easy answers to these questions and others related to the topic, but I did get a chance to discuss some of this on Fox & Friends First earlier today. This topic and event is very close to me. I deployed soon after 9/11 and my son was born while I was away. His generation has only known the war on terror.
The United States Special Operations community is the most lethal and effective answer to terrorists worldwide. We continue to learn, evolve, and advance in our ways to combat evil forces all over the globe. No matter where you are—we will find you. And that’s important, but it’s not the only answer.
Winning the battlefield is a must—but in today’s technology-driven society, bombs, bullets, and extreme violence can only go so far. We are faced with a sometimes-bigger challenge of defeating the radical ideology that all-too often spreads with ease. Far too many people are convinced to take up arms or otherwise aid a cause that threatens the entire free world.
We just wanted to take some time on this day to thank you for your support of our veteran-owned company. We give our all to keep you informed, entertained, and overall better-prepared. This will never change. Whether a date marks a victory, or a setback, in the War on Terror, rest-assured we’re still charging hard and fast to champion freedom and everything that comes along with it.” -Brandon Webb
