Baghdad, Iraq– The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the two car bombs and suicide bombing that killed 35 and injured at least 100 via their Amaq News Agency.
The first car bomb detonated outside of the Al Faqma ice cream shop in the Baghdad neighborhood of Karrada, which killed 13 and wounded 30, most of those targeted were families as they broke their daily fast for Ramadan. Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop confirmed a 12-year-old Australian girl visiting family in Iraq was among the multiple children killed in the attack.

The second car bombing took place outside of a government building in the Karkh district which killed 10 and wounded 44. The final terrorist attack occurred when a suicide bomber detonated their explosive device at a military checkpoint in a town west of Baghdad called Hīt. This attack killed 7 and wounded 24 Iraqi Security Forces.
In the previous years, the Islamic State has carried out many attacks during the holy month of Ramadan and this year is no different.
