Olympia, Washington — The Washington State Capitol building and its surrounding campus is under a total lock-down after an unknown threat activated the buildings’ ‘active alert system.’ Washington State Police along with Olympia Police Department SWAT are currently gathering near the Department of Natural Resources building along the east portion or the capital campus.
The alert system announced that employees and patrons within the buildings were to “shelter in place” with another warning to citizens outside to “clear the area and go to a safe place.” SOFREP was able to speak to a Washington State government employee who asked to remain anonymous saying that “We are sheltering in my building right now… we have no idea what is going on.” However, the employee was able to pass along an unconfirmed report that the Washington State Police may have at least one person already in custody.
Washington State Police Public Affairs is still advising the public to stay away from the capital area.
This is an on-going situation and SOFREP will update as more information develops.
UPDATE: Washington State Police has lifted the shelter in place order at the time of publishing
