For awhile 9mm 1911's have been the rage. A really sweet shooting gun. Minimal recoil, great trigger, great accuracy. Looks like the new hot button is 10mm. Big knockdown, high velocity, big recoil. They aren't my Grandpa's 1911.
Still the best auto pistol platform ever built. There's a reason Tier 1 guys build and carry them. Carried one in Iraq with zero issues. The issue with the 1911 is that cheap ones are used all to often as a measuring stick. A properly smithed 1911 using high quality parts will run flawlessly. Wilson, Carolina Arms Group, Ed Brown, STI, Nighthawk and Sig are perfect examples of this. I've had SIG's and STI that both ran with without hiccups into the 3000-4000 round count without being cleaned just lubed. These were used in 3 Gun and believe me they are not babied. There's a reason the 1911 still dominates competition shooting and has more World Championships than any other platform. There is no perfect gun. Each has it's strong point and does something that others may not. But the 1911 does them all well and better than most. I Carried Chip McCormick Power 10 mags that gave me 10+1. The M9's couldn't carry but the same due to sand and dust causing mag issues. The 1911 didn't suffer from these issues. Face it, it's a sidearm not a primary.
A lot of good points. It's not the gun I'd take to war but it's still my favorite to take to a range. Guess I'm just nostalgic.
Ummm....not if you can still drive tacks with it. I'll take a Nighthawk custom 1911 any day of the week!
