We could put out an article every single day– about China and it’s multitude of technological advances, growing influence throughout the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the South China Sea–and sometimes I wonder if anyone is paying attention.
I had a professor once that said compared to the near 5000 year recorded history of China, this mere 200 years of American existence seems like a drop in the bucket. The Chinese are a very patient people and in their minds, they will eventually regain the premier position of power in the world.
Americans have no patience for patience.
Take the Ming tombs as a broad example – by all archaeological estimations a find of a lifetime. What have they found during excavations you might ask? Nothing. No, that’s right. Nothing. Yet.
That’s because though westerners have been chomping at the bit for years now to explore the site, the Chinese have other priorities. When scientists brought up that they hoped to examine the site before they died, the Chinese asked “Why? It’s not going anywhere. Someone will get to it eventually.”
We can technically walk and chew bubble gum at the same time so monitoring Kim’s dangerous shenanigans in North Korea, the continuing bloodshed in the Middle East and Russian meddling in US elections seems doable. We pay attention to those because they DEMAND our attention.
But what the Chinese are truly masters at, is going about a plan for reclamation of world dominance in ways that don’t demand as much obvious attention. Just check out the evening news sometime and see how little –outside of sinophile channels–is being discussed about what the Chinese are up to in nearly every corner of the globe.
