According to documents on the Politico website, the Obama administration is planning the release or transfer of about one third of the prisoners from the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay before the election.

Most of the 55 scheduled for released are Yemeni detainees whose release was halted in 2010 because of the unstable situation in Yemen at the time.

In a related story, the Cleveland Leader reports the leader of the September 11th attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was a terrorist released from Guantanamo Bay. Sufyan Ben Qumu was reportedly Osama bin Laden’s driver.

Qumu was a Libyan soldier who was jailed by Qaddafi. He escaped and fled to Sudan and later Pakistan where he worked for Osama bin. In 2001 Qumu was arrested in Pakistan and was held in Guantanamo Bay for six years.

In 2005, the military recommended sending him back to Libya. Qumu was turned over to Libya in 2007 on the condition that he was kept imprisoned. Gaddafi freed him in 2010, to celebrate his 41st year in power.
