George H.W. Bush Aircraft Carrier — A sailor has staged controversy after an NCIS investigation followed up claims on Facebook that he was a victim of racist vandals, according to the Navy Times. His bed had been slashed open and slurs had been written on his wall. While the name Marquie Little was used on Facebook, the Navy has claimed that this was a pseudonym.

The Facebook post apparently said that:

I am a United States sailor. I proudly serve the Navy and this is what I’m receiving in return. #SailorAskingForHelp things are getting out of hand. Please share. Somebody knows something. (Thank you all for your guidance).”

However, the post has since been deleted. The sailor has apparently “received appropriate administrative actions and additional counseling and training,” according to Cmdr. Dave Hecht, public affairs for the Naval Air Force Atlantic.

The Navy said in a statement to 13News Now that,

NCIS supported command investigation following a claim of racially motivated vandalism aboard the aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush has determined that the alleged victim staged the incident himself. The United States Navy does not tolerate racial discrimination of any form and the well-being of our sailors is our top priority. Although the claims were ultimately determined to be unfounded, the chain of command used the incident to provide additional training to the crew and re-emphasized that vandalism and racism will not be tolerated. It has also been reiterated to the ship that the chain of command has an open door policy for reporting incidents of misconduct. The sailor who made these false claims has received appropriate administrative actions and additional counseling and training. He will remain a member of the crew and continue to perform his military duties.”

This comes after the racist slurs in September, where five black Air Force candidates used similar racist graffiti on their own message boards on their doors. This spurred off national outrage, until it was found out that they had written the messages themselves. However, despite the origins of these racial slurs, Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria’s speech on the matter has still resonated in the minds of many as it continues to make the rounds on social media.
