Update: There are more casualties being reported from the attack at the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul. According to CNN, 12 people died in the attack and thirty were injured. Out of approximately 1,700 enrolled students, 750 students were on campus during the attack.

Seven students, three policemen and two security guards were killed in the attack on the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul campus, Basir Mujahid, the spokesman said. Thirty students were injured in the attack, which no group has yet claimed responsibility for. Around 750 students were on campus at the time, he added.- CNN

Afghan security forces killed two gunmen at the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul several hours after they detonated a car bomb near the entrance of the campus and opened fire on faculty and students early Wednesday evening. At 4 am (local time) Thursday morning, a senior security official on scene announced that the two gunmen were dead. During the attack, a security guard was killed and at least 21 people were injured. Students and staff barricaded themselves in the classrooms while others managed to escape. After the gunmen were killed, Afghan security forces were able to rescue more than 30 people hidden within the buildings. The US military assisted in the operation in an advisory role only. The identities of the two men have not been released yet and no one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
