Be forewarned this knife is not an EDC blade, but a serious tool to have in your gear. The Southern Grind Custom was built with a drop point black PVD blade and a custom Jade Ghost Green Handle. These knives are made by Zac Brown (Yep, that’s Zac Brown; the Country singer) and are made in Georgia USA. Each blade is made with twenty-five hand assembled parts and over 600-hour prototyping to get the designs just right. Each knife was made to be ruggedly dependable and highly functional.
The four-inch blade is made from 14C-28N high-carbon stainless steel. 14C28N is ideal for knife applications, which place very high demands on edge sharpness, edge stability and corrosion resistance such as chef’s knives, pocket knives, hunting, and fishing knives. It’s just pure optimized chemistry that provides top-grade knife steel with a unique combination of excellent edge performance, high hardness, and good corrosion resistance. You would be familiar with this steel if you owned a few of the Kershaw blades. The lock and liner are made from 6AL4V titanium to lower the weight and stand up to some serious torque and enough flexibility to easily to close the blade.
From the pictures, you can tell the size of the knife, and how it fits in the tactical pocket; a pocket that many pants now come with (think 5.11). The short clip is different from many other blades and took some getting used to, but ultimately liked the way it held the knife secure and wasn’t overtly obvious like some knives that have the clips go half-way down the handle. The blade flicks open with ease with one hand and when deployed the overall size of the knife demands respect. In my opinion, this is a fighting or hunting knife with an ability to handle many needs of your occupation or hobby. I am sure your first impression on opening the knife no one will ever use the words of Crocodile Dundee “that’s not a knife!”
