The pair were captured at their home within the Ft. Tiuna military installation and whisked away to the waiting US Navy amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima, where they remain.
President Trump has stated that the pair are “headed to New York,” where they will face prosecution.

According to the Associated Press, US Attorney General Pam Bondi vowed that the couple would “soon face the full wrath of American justice” and face prosecution on charges related to narcotics trafficking and narco-terrorism, reflecting indictments originally filed in 2020 and expanded or reaffirmed with the current legal actions.
In remarks delivered today, President Trump framed the operation as a deliberate response to years of defiance by the Maduro regime, emphasizing that diplomatic off-ramps had been offered and rejected. Trump said Maduro “had every opportunity to step aside peacefully” and instead chose confrontation, criminal partnerships, and escalation.
The President made clear that the action against Maduro was not aimed at Venezuela as a nation, but at what he described as a criminal enterprise masquerading as a government. He reiterated U.S. support for the Venezuelan people and warned that any remaining regime figures tied to narcotics trafficking or foreign adversaries would face similar consequences.
