Super Tucano Attack Aircraft Over Afghanistan!

The Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucano, known in DoD circles as the A-29, is a turboprop primary trainer aircraft modified for light attack, CAS, and aerial reconnaissance missions in low-threat environments. The Super Tucano is a very agile aircraft, designed to operate in austere conditions and terrain. The A-29 is now entering service with a fledgling Afghan Air Force, under the tutelage of American pilots.

It was just a few months ago that the first A-29 Super Tucano aircraft touched down in Afghanistan, and a new video of live fire drills gives us a rare look at the Afghan pilot’s progress since then.

As part of NATO’s Operation Resolute Support to provide support and security to the Afghan National Government in the face resurgent terrorist groups like the Taliban and Al Qaeda, the US has provided A-29 light air support planes to the fledgling Afghan Air Force.
