And The Throat Punch Goes To…Karzai

I am sitting at the terminal gate in San Francisco, hung over and almost missed my flight – damn you New Belgium, damn you straight to hell. Follow-on flight to San Diego in two hours, so I thought I would take this time to (re)introduce myself and share a thought that has been bothering me.

My name is Michael Golembesky. I served 8 years in the Marine Corps (2002-2010) and left honorably as a Staff Sergeant. I had the pleasure of serving my 5th and final deployment with the men of Marine Special Operations Team 8222 (MSOT 8222). Things you need to know about me upfront: I have no comprehension of political correctness, I probably drink way too much and I have zero tolerance for stupid. Inexperience I can understand but legitimate stupidity drives me crazy. I guarantee to you all, as the informed and sensible SOFREP community, my utmost honesty, courtesy and dry sense of humor.

With that all being said, this report I heard last week about Karzai’s rant on U.S. troops is really burning me up. Here is my short summary and solutions for those who do not have this topic on their radar.

President Hamid Karzai has accused the United States of working in parallel with the Taliban to keep Afghanistan unstable in order to keep U.S. troops there for the foreseeable future.

My advice to Chuck Hagel: As a former enlisted man, Infantry squad leader and Vietnam Veteran, I hope the next time you are within arms reach of Karzai that you punch him square in the mouth. This clown bag has been the “elected” president of Afghanistan since 2001 with nothing to show. Our troops blood is all over that god forsaken landscape; from Korengal Valley to FOB Todd, some spider hole in Helmand to the ratlines of RC-North. More to follow…

is poised to publish the first book detailing experiences of Marine special operators in Afghanistan. And unlike career writers who drop into an outpost for a quick embed, Golembesky was there, as a member of Marine Special Operations Team 8222 during one of its hardest deployments. He plans to tell the team’s story through the words of the operators on the ground. The working title is “Level Zero Heroes.”
