During his trial, the prosecution played a videotape made by al Qaeda before Khadr was captured. The tape, recovered in Afghanistan, showed Khadr assembling and planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Khadr’s supporters claimed his innocence, but Khadr admitted that he killed SFC Speer. Joint Task Force Guantanamo (JTF-GTMO) considered Khadr a “high intelligence value” detainee who he provided information about his father, a top al Qaeda figure and his father’s Taliban associates. Khadr served as a translator for an al Qaeda operative in Afghanistan.
