The NSA’s Utah Data Center: Protecting US Citizens or Spying on Them?

WIRED did an excellent write up on the NSA’s new Data Center in Utah and I highly encourage you to check it out.

The world we live in is getting smaller and smaller due in large part to the pervasiveness of the internet, communications and easy access to a world of information at the touch of a smart phone button.

Electronic Warfare (SIGINT & COMINT) is very real and the stakes are high if you consider that technology does exist that will penetrate most mobile devices and suck all your data out, all while you go about your texting….

How far will we go to protect ourselves and how long will we keep our heads in the clouds and not pay attention to our Fourth Amendment rights getting whittled away it.  Don’t get me wrong, I do believe that there are good Americans at the NSA doing great things to protect our country from bad people.  I just wonder how much of our freedom we continue to lose with poorly written and executed laws made in haste (Patriot Act anyone?).

I personally think the NSA has better things to do then listen to me and my friends talking about where to meet up for a beer.  I’m sure the algorithm they write is better than that……

Any good program must come with rules, boundaries and oversight.

Remember that we live in a democracy and vote your conscience next time you go to the polls; or if you don’t then remember that too before you complain. Nobody likes a whiner that doesn’t bring viable solutions and action to the table.  No one in the Special Ops community that is….

Hell, taking up piracy on the high seas of Africa may sound more and more exciting to young American men who don’t want to live in an Orwellian society where everything they do and say is closely monitored and under surveillance.

I personally would rather take my risks living a free life then to sacrifice freedoms for drones overhead and all my cell traffic monitored while people chuckle at what we’ve become far away in China and Pakistan.
