And on March 22, 1933, […]

Opinion: Remembering the good things

These days it seems like everyone is in a perpetual state of dissatisfaction. Even compared to the Karen people, who live under the oppressive thumb of the Burmese government while surviving in an unforgiving jungle, I have rarely come across people more profoundly dissatisfied with their lives as Americans.  In fact, the Karen are among […]

Scammers exploit the Wounded Warrior name, steal $125,000

“The Wounded Warrior Fund.” Sounds legitimate, right? Whistleblowers of America: Bolstering those who would come forward

Imagine that you work somewhere within the VA or the DOD. You notice that, say, your boss is continuously contracting out landscaping duties to his wife’s landscaping company, though the landscaping never seems to get done. Hundreds of thousands of VA dollars are getting siphoned into this man’s family bank account, and no one is […]

Pages of War: ‘Gilgamesh’ and the grief tied to brotherhood

“The Epic of Gilgamesh” is widely considered the oldest piece of literature in existence today, though the original author (or authors) are unknown. From ancient Mesopotamia, the story follows Gilgamesh, a demigod who is both a great warrior and all around good-looking guy. After some questionable escapades at the beginning, the gods create for him […]
