Hasan Gets Death Sentence

It took two hours for a jury composed of Majors and above to impose the death sentence on Nidal Hasan.  Not surprising, considering the non-defense offered by Hasan, overwhelming evidence and the heartbreaking accounts of the lives lost, the cost borne by next of kin, and the continuing suffering endured by surviving victims testified to […]

Terrorists Chat Rooms Sparked Recent Embassy Closures

New facts are dribbling out in reference to the intel driving the recent rash of Embassy closings. AP reported comments from three unnamed U.S. intelligence officials who said “the unspecified threat was discussed in an online forum joined by so many jihadist groups that it included a representative from Boko Haram, the Nigerian insurgency that […]

XM25 To Become The M25

The Army is looking to type-classify the XM25 as the M25 and go into low-rate production late next year. The XM25 is a “smart” grenade launcher that fires a 25mm shell twice the range of the current man-fired 40mm grenade launchers fielded. It does this by coupling a ballistic computer, laser rangefinder and programmable round. The gunner “lazes” […]

Combatant Command Shake Up Being Considered

The Pentagon is considering reorganizing the world.  Well not the WORLD, but how we approach our defense responsibilities primarily to realize a 20% cut in DoD infrastructure in accordance with SecDef Hagel’s desires. There are six geographic combatant commands or COCOMs, AFRICOM,CENTCOM, EUCOM, NORTHCOM, PACOM, SOUTHCOM. The plan is looking at closing the doors on SOUTHCOM […]

Poor Leadership Let Bradley Manning Hurt Us

Many ask how Bradley Manning was able to access, amass and expose 700,000 of our nation’s classified documents. The simple answer is the use of a Lady Gaga CD and abuse of the trust that was placed in him to not copy classified data and release it to the world. But failed leadership gave him […]

Bradley Manning’s Greatest Contribution

We will be hearing a verdict on Bradley Manning’s court martial soon. Whatever it is, the infamous “Collateral Murder” video will be mentioned. As usual, SOFREP tells you what the media never does. Bradley Manning’s singular achievement is the release of a now infamous “Collateral Murder” video. It allegedly pulls the veil of secrecy aside […]

Rangers and SEALs to Train Women By 2015/2016

AP just reported the Rangers and SEALs will be training women starting in mid ’15 & ’16 respectively. I hate to tell you “I told you so,” but I did. I wrote an article about how the military has integrated the sexes. Publicly, the military says “same standards,” but the practice is actually much different. […]

Camouflage: Congress Steps In

Well, just when I thought it couldn’t get more interesting, Congress has FINALLY decided to step in. Learned about it on SSD. Congressman William Enyart (D- IL) has supposedly read an article in the Washington Post about Camouflage last month. Here’s the link. It’s really a seminal article and I referenced it in my discussion within […]

Gregory Kirk, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission in Libya, testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that a four-man SF team was told to stand down

Happy 238th Birthday, U.S. Army

The Army traces its birth to 14 June 1775, when the Continental Congress called for the formation of ten companies of expert rifleman. George Washington was the Army’s first commander. The Army is the nation’s oldest and largest service and its flag has 183 campaign streamers.  The Army’s history is the nation’s history. Even a […]

The 4th Amendment, Edward Snowden and Critical Thinking

As you wade through the mountains of information, it’s probably a good idea to acquaint yourself with the basics of the controversy, and prepare your mind for the onslaught so you can be […]

War Stories: Fell Out of a Helicopter and Lived

I was at Air Assault school in ’86. Part of the graduation requirement was to rappel with pack from a helicopter 100’ in the air.  We were on a Huey as we rose to the required height for the test, and were told to assume our “L” positions on the helicopters skids before being commanded […]
