On Monday, an IED was detonated by police outside of the US Embassy in Manila. The device was placed less than 150 meters from the US Embassy and components consisted of a 81mm mortar round, cellphone, blasting cap, and a small battery. Today, police indicated they have arrested at least one suspect and may end up arresting more. Police believe those responsible were Muslim militants that are aligned with the Islamic State.
National police chief Ronald dela Rosa said components of the improvised explosive device suggested it could have been planted by the Maute, a Muslim rebel group that has pledged allegiance to Islamic State.” – Reuters
