The Marine Reconnaissance Foundation was founded on June 5, 2013, in Camp Pendleton, CA.  While the MARSOC Foundation has done a lot of good for our MARSOC Marines, with the Recon and MARSOC communities moving apart, the MARSOC Foundation can’t really do much for the 0321s.  This left a gap, which the Recon Foundation is stepping up to fill.

The Foundation is intended to support all Recon Marines and Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsmen, whether they just got out at four years yesterday, or served with the Raiders or Amphibious Reconnaissance Companies in WWII.  The intention is to provide support to the wounded, support to families, a helping hand with civilian job connections, promoting Recon veteran-owned businesses, fundraising for Recon-affiliated causes, as well as the Recon Training Company at SOI-West.

The Foundation will also continue to pass on the stories and traditions of the fellowship of hard men who have earned the title Recon Marine.  From the Raiders to Force Recon in Afghanistan, the battles and the fallen will be remembered, and their stories told.

The Foundation works directly with the Active Duty Reconnaissance community, and will be supporting the Recon Challenge next year.  The Recon Challenge is an all-day gut check, covering 29.4 miles, testing two-man teams on endurance, communication, and their commitment to mission accomplishment.  The 6th Annual Recon Challenge will be held May 16th, 2014, at SOI West.

Presently, the Foundation’s 501(c)(3) status is pending; any donations to the Foundation will be retroactively tax-deductible once the status is approved.

The Foundation’s website, www.reconfoundation.org, went live on August 30, 2013.
