Governor Walz Veteran Outrage: Ignoring War Deployment Call and The Minneapolis Floyd Riot Debacle

We used to have a saying in the SEAL Teams that went, “He’d make a good neighbor…” Meaning that the person in question was a nice guy but not someone you’d want to go to war with.

I’ve read extensively about Walz’s time in the National Guard, and it’s obvious why lots of veterans are upset about the way he departed and then lied about his rank.

Also, let’s be real for a second. The National Guard is NOT active duty military service and no offense to you great Guards folks but there’s a reason the term “weekend warrior” was invented. Guard duty, reserve duty in general is easy, fun, and a great deal.

You get amazing training, your college is paid for with the GI Bill, and in trade, you give up some weekends and get to travel on the government’s dime.

And if the call ever comes, which it rarely does, you answer it…or in Walz’s case, you put your papers in and skip town.

The short version of why veterans are calling out Walz is that he was selected to be promoted to Command Sergeant Major and lead his unit as the senior NCO set to deploy to Iraq. But, he ducked out before deployment before officially attaining the rank of Sergeant Major, and later lied about a promotion he didn’t earn.

And veterans get pissed about this kinda thing.

This also puts his character meter into the red in my books and explains why many are again calling out Governor Walz for stolen valor.

I deployed to Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks with an eight months pregnant wife. I was in Yemen right after the Cole was bombed conducting sniper overwatch, and let me tell you, there’s not many Trip Advisor recommendations in Aden, Yemen! The calls came and I always went, and again I re-deployed to Iraq as an intelligence contractor. All of us served with guys who quietly fill out their paperwork with shifty eyes to avoid their combat service.

Two retired Minnesota National Guard command sergeant majors also penned a paid letter to a Minnesota newspaper in 2018 claiming Walz “embellished and selectively omitted facts” about his military service. This letter resurfaced on X after Vice President Kamala Harris tapped Walz as her running mate. –PBS

Years later the Minneapolis Mayor called him in distress over rising tension over the George Floyd killing, aggressive rioting, and asked for the help of the National Guard.

Walz delayed.

The National Guard is not on alert 5 status and can drop their day jobs and report to duty. It takes time to mobilize and if anyone would know that it would be Walz. And the delay cost 19 more lives and is now being scrutinized for good reason.

Some people face the music when the tough call comes, and some run for cover.

Two tough calls came and both times Walz didn’t make muster.

I’ve said it so many times on SOFREP but America can and should do much better than the current candidates that have been forced on us by a failing two-party system that is an effective duopoly.

However, you deserve to have all the information about Walz’s Guard service before you make a tough decision in November.
