DOD identifies Green Berets and Combat Controller lost in IED blast in Afghanistan

On Tuesday, an RG33 MRAP vehicle was struck by an IED in Ghazi, Afghanistan.

Eye witnesses reported that the blast was so large that the vehicle was thrown approximately fifty meters. An RG33 MRAP weighs somewhere between 28 to 33 tons, depending on the variant of the vehicle being driven.

Killed in the blast were two Green Berets assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group — Captain Andrew Ross and Sergeant First Class Eric Emond. Air Force Combat Controller Staff Sergeant Dylan Elchin was also killed in the blast.

Sources report to NEWSREP that three other casualties from the attack remain in critical, but stable condition. A civilian contractor has also been reported as injured. NEWSREP will provide updates as they become available.
