CBS reported that senior ranking State Department officials were likely responsible for covering up several internal investigations. For those of you not familiar, the State Department is tasked with investigating crimes foreign and domestic.
John Miller reports that according to an internal State Department Inspector General’s memo, several recent investigations were influenced, manipulated, or simply called off. –CBS News
One of the investigation that was apparently called off involved a drug ring being utilized by contracted security agents. This comes as no secret to those of us that have contracted with the government. When I was a Navy Chief in the SEAL Teams, we kicked a guy out for drug abuse, and he was contracting for Blackwater before the ink could dry on his dishonorable discharge papers.
The important take-away is that if senior staffers are willing to cover this up, then it makes sense to assume that there is a senior-level culture that promotes covering things up rather than taking responsibility and holding people accountable. It’s no secret inside the State Department that Hillary’s chief of staff was interviewing folks before they went before the Benghazi Accountability Review Board (ARB), in what has turned out to be a paper tiger investigation from our perspective. And what about Ambassador Stevens personal laptop and professional journal, why was it locked up in the Undersecretary of Management’s office for almost a month before being turned over to the FBI? It’s doubtful that these items were collecting dust on the 7th floor.
These exact points are why Jack and I continue to dig in, in an effort to hold senior 7th floor State officials accountable.
I’m not saying who is ultimately responsible for this culture of unaccountability, but I bet his name rhymes with Patrick Kennedy.
