Twelve United States Marines were injured when a military aircraft went down Sunday in Hawaii according to Captain Brian Block, a Marine Corps spokesman.
At approximately 11:00 AM local time, an MV-22 Osprey assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, made a hard landing at the Bellows Training Area in Hawaii. Twelve people were taken to a local hospital for treatment and emergency crews responded to the scene, Block reported. Local sources report up to twenty-one people were aboard the aircraft when it went down.
The injured Marines aboard the aircraft are assigned to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit from Camp Pendleton, California. As we’ve previously reported, it’s been a difficult week for Marine Corp aviators. On Sunday the Defense Department identified six Marines killed when their UH-1Y helicopter crashed in a mountainous region of Nepal on May 12 during a mission to provide relief to victims of the earthquake.
