“By defeating violent extremists in Iraq and Syria, we are simultaneously supporting two separate geographic combatant commands. We remain committed to defeating Daesh, committed to our allies and partners, and committed to global security.”

This is only the third deployment for the USS Bush which was commissioned on Jan. 10, 2009. The ship is the tenth and last of the Nimitz-class aircraft carriers. Did you know that the USS Bush is the only aircraft carrier with a living namesake? Former President H.W. Bush was also one of the youngest Naval Aviators when he earned his Navy Wings of Gold at the age of 18 years old in 1943. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions in World War II.
