The Sikorsky HH-60G PAVE Hawk, built on the venerable UH-60 Blackhawk design, has been in service with the United States Air Force since 1991. For the uninitiated among you, the PAVE designation stands for Precision Avionics Vectoring Equipment, denoting the specialized electronics the aircraft is equipped with to carry out its mission. Designed almost specifically as a Combat Search And Rescue (CSAR) platform, the Hawk has been deployed extensively in support of U.S. interests at home and abroad.
In addition to its CSAR role, and because of the specialized avionics, HH-60Gs have also been used in support of all manner of Special Operations Forces – Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces, and other commands. Fast, agile, and reliable, the Hawk remains a mainstay for the Air Force’s Rescue Wings and shall for the foreseeable future.
