Both sides offered sharply conflicting accounts, however, underscoring the heightened suspicions and volatility in an area that has been at the heart of India-Pakistan friction for decades.
In Pakistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the “unprovoked and naked aggression of Indian forces” that resulted in the death of at least two Pakistani soldiers. India however, insisted that suspected militants were killed, numbering in the “double digits.”

In Pakistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the “unprovoked and naked aggression of Indian forces” that resulted in the death of at least two Pakistani soldiers. India however, insisted that suspected militants were killed, numbering in the “double digits.”
A senior Pakistani military official, meanwhile, further rejected India’s assertion of carrying out a “surgical strike” by army troops on several militant sites, and suggested India had waged cross-border shelling.
