SOFREP editor-in-chief interviews President Assad in Syria

Jack Murphy, SOFREP’s Editor-in-Chief, is currently in Syria participating in a conference held by the British Syrian society. Yesterday, Jack was given the rare opportunity to interview President Bashar al-Assad.

After being escorted into the atrium of the presidential palace we were told that we could walk upstairs to meet the president. I walked up the white marble steps with my head down until I heard someone say, “Hello, welcome.” I looked up and shook hands with President Bashar al-Assad.

With a small group of journalists I was permitted to interview the President of Syria on a range of issues that included war crimes, the importance of Assad to the Syrian state, the Russian presence in Syria, and what the future holds for a country that has been traumatized by war.- Jack Murphy
