While the threat of Russian world domination seems like a very far off fairy tale to most of us here in the United States, it is a growing concern for many European nations. The Crimean peninsula occupation and continuous buildup of Russian military forces on their borders is making Europe nervous. Many European based NATO allies, such as Norway, have requested a larger U.S. military presence in their backyards and increased deployments of United States forces to fill training and advisory roles. France recently joined a group of allies in reinstating a mandatory national service directive. Sweden reinstated their draft last year as well citing low enlistment numbers and Russian aggression as justification. Lithuania is part of that group too. Despite what you hear, a cold war is happening and as our allies harden their defenses the situation is beginning to heat up.
