The Pic of the Day: Minigun fire support — now that’s a sweet job

U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor C. Coughlin fires a GAU-17/A minigun out of a UH-1Y Huey helicopter during a fire support coordination exercise as part of KAMANDAG 3 at Colonel Ernesto P. As treaty allies, U.S.-Philippine and U.S.-Japanese military collaboration has served as a cornerstone for stability in the Indo-Pacific region for decades, and the U.S. has a continuing commitment in strengthening our longstanding alliances, reinforcing our maritime security efforts and addressing our shared extremist threat. Coughlin, an Oak Harbor, Wa., native, is a UH-1Y Huey helicopter crew chief assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 169, 1st Marine Air Wing. KAMANDAG is an acronym for the Filipino phrase “Kaagapay Ng Mga Manirigma Ng Dagat,” which translates to “Cooperation of the Warriors of the Sea,” highlighting the partnerships between the U.S. and Philippine militaries.
