Italy’s first police counter terrorism response team

The terror threat in Italy is very high, although it is a different kind of danger, one that’s not necessarily tied to direct actions against the population. In recent years, we noticed how our country has become a transit point rather than a real target. Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel – the Nice promenade attacker – and Anis […]

A special friendship: “Col Moschin” and the US Special Forces

Telling the story of special forces regiment is not an easy task, especially if we speak of the “Col Moschin” or better known as “The Ninth.” The Regiment’s origins date back to the First World War when a few brave men – inspired by the German Sturmtruppen – formed the Arditi units, specialising in enemy […]

November 9, 1971: The Meloria Incident

The Italian military parachuting remembers the November 9 as one of the most tragic days of its entire history. On that dreadful day a Royal Air Force’s Hercules C-130 crashed at the sandbanks of Meloria, a few kilometers from Livorno, bringing with them the lives of six british Airmen and 46 paratroopers of Folgore Brigade. The struggle with suicide attacks

Suicide attacks are never random, they are a cold calculation’s result that involves several factors. The most important is the capability to spread anxiety and fear among the population, not only those directly injured. Modern democracies have sophisticated weaponry, bomb military targets with drones, launch missiles at impossible distances, yet exhibit some uncertainty against the […]

Italy Versus ISIS

A few days ago, following the tragic events in Paris, the Italian government finally approved a new anti-terrorism law. The new law imposes severe penalties for convicted foreign fighters and jihadi recruiters, establishes new rules for exploiting the work of intelligence, and encourages more careful checks at the borders. The Italian army will pursue its home-front mission supporting the […]

Europe, ISIS, and Rome

Terrorism strikes Paris, the heart of cultural Europe, and Europeans awaken from a very dangerous sleep. What happened in Paris shows that European Union governments have failed their policy against the jihad; they have maintained a low level of alert, but mostly, they have left the initiative to the terrorists. As explained by Boaz Ganor, founder […]

Becoming An Italian Special Forces Operator

The 9th Assault Parachute Regiment, also known as “Col Moschin,” is the most elite regiment of the Italian Army. The men comprising that unit receive the most complex and difficult training of any in the army. Recently, with the establishment of COMFOSE, the Italian Army general staff tried to transfer some of Col Moschin’s capabilities to other special […]

The Desert’s Lions, The Lions of Folgore

One of the most heroic acts of World War II took place on October 23, 1942 in the sand dunes of North Africa: the resistance of the Folgore Brigade to British 8th Army’s offensive. The bravery and valor shown by these few Italian soldiers was recognized by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill who, in a speech […]
