Rohingya refugees to be pushed to ‘uninhabitable’ island

Bangladesh/Myanmar Border — Recently, Bangladesh began a $280 million plan to relocate the massive influx of Rohingya refugees to an island that Amnesty International’s South Asia Director, Biraj Patnaik, has described as “uninhabitable.” He said pushing them out that way would be a “terrible mistake” as it is quite the distance from the other camps […]

WATCH: Bodies of the Rohingya wash up from the Naf River (GRAPHIC CONTENT)

Naf River, Bangladesh — Bodies turn up all the time on the Naf River, the water dividing the Burmese countryside from Bangladesh. Thousands of Rohingya have been fleeing the violence that has been described as “a textbook example of ethnic cleansing” by Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights. Fleeing with just their […]

Getting out of the military and going to college? Give this a read

There is a lot of skepticism and finger-pointing aimed at the VA these days, some legitimate concerns and others just incessant complaining. Regardless of your thoughts on the VA, the GI Bill is a great program that allows you to get a free education, and gets you paid in the process—and coming from someone who […]

Small business owners: the basics of using social media to your advantage

Like it or not, social media is an essential function in most businesses these days. You could be a wildly successful and well-marketed company and not find your name on TV commercials, billboards or in the newspaper. Not only is it the new trend of marketing, but people spend more time staring at social media […]

On this day in history: ‘Shell Shock’ report is presented in 1917

The psychiatric field of Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a relatively new one. The term dates as far back as 1980s, and its predecessor, “gross stress reaction,” was coined in 1952. However, the term “shell shock” is an older one, and made its mark in the minds of the public during the first world war. […]

The dangers of ordering tourniquets (and other medical supplies) online

When building their own first aid kit, most military veterans have a decent idea of what they might need—at least when it comes to life-saving care, and especially in the realm of massive hemorrhaging. There might need to be some research done in terms of civilian-specific care, but generally speaking, veterans will go ahead and […]

Pages of War: ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ by C. S. Lewis

What does a children’s book have to do with war? Most people who have read the installments of “The Chronicles of Narnia” read them as a child or read them to their children. Like “The Hobbit” or a boatload of modern Disney movies, they are highly entertaining to most adults too, but are generally geared […]

Hollywood: Please stop making ‘Special Operators’ look like this

I’m generally the last person to pretend like Hollywood is some big conglomerate with singular objectives, and not the multiple businesses with multiple interests and agendas that it is. There is no one “agenda” and they aren’t trying to push one image or the other as a whole, though it can often seem that way […]

Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs): how they work

Kim Jong Un has yet again fired another Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) in a test launch that ended in failure. However, the failure looks like it occurred upon re-entry, and if they solve this problem, the “Hwasong-15” will have the range to conceivably reach the east coast of the United States along with much of […]

What does the National Security Advisor actually do?

The former National Security Advisor Mike Flynn has reportedly plead guilty in regards to charges that he intentionally made “false, fictitious and fraudulent statements” to the FBI. In light of these developments, it helps to know exactly in what capacity these advisors serve. The easy, obvious answer (and as the title implies) is that they advise […]

Pakistan shooting and the tactical advantage of conservative clothing

Peshawar, Pakistan — At least 13 people have been killed in Peshawar, just under 100 miles from the capital city, Islamabad. Armed men disguised themselves in burqas, walked into a university and shot multiple people. Over 35 people were also wounded.
