The world's best tasting, best for you, ready to drink protein shake is now available. Meet MÖLK. Image from JOCKOFUEL.com
Meet Jocko
I’ve been a massive fan of Jocko Willink for years. If you are a regular SOFREP reader, I assume you know who he is. On the off chance you’ve been living under a rock for the past several years, allow me to introduce him to you.
Jocko is a retired Navy SEAL officer, and he commanded SEAL Team Three’s Task Unit Bruiser in Ramadi, Iraq, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. There is another Navy SEAL that you might know that was also on Team Three, SOFREP founder Brandon Webb. Incidentally, the two men are now both New York Times best-selling authors and successful entrepreneurs. There must have been something in the water at Team Three.
Here is Brandon giving Jocko a shout-out back in 2016.
After reading Jocko’s books on leadership and listening to his inspiring podcast, I put myself back on “the path.” In short, “the path,” as Jocko explains it, is the road one takes to build their best self. It involved waking up early, working out hard, and having good nutrition.
Strong Motivation to Make a Clean Product
Just yesterday, I learned the story of why Jocko started making nutritional supplements. This isn’t one of those deals where a huge company comes up to a celebrity and offers them millions of dollars to slap their name on a can—quite the opposite. In the video below, Jocko explains how and why he got into the supplement business. He describes how he was taking supplements years ago, and a report came out that the protein powder he was using was loaded with heavy metals. Worse yet, he was giving this same protein powder to his young children. He was pissed, as any father would be. When he decided to start his own supplement line, he said he would do it under the condition that they were made in a way that they were as clean and healthy as they could possibly be. And Jocko is a man true to his word.

A Personal Journey
Today, Jocko Fuel makes a full line of clean, healthy nutritional supplements. I’ve only had the opportunity to try a couple of them thus far, but that’s about to change.
A couple of years ago, I was about 30 pounds overweight, and I felt like crap. My blood sugar was sky-high, and my doctor told me I was on the fast track to diabetes. She recommended losing weight and immediately cutting sugar out of my diet. This is when I hopped on the path and stayed there. In the past, I had used protein shakes as meal replacements and supplements to build muscle, but I never paid much attention to the contents. Now it was essential. After a bunch of research, I decided to try JOCKO MÖLK protein powder.
You might not know this about me, but I have a degree in Biology. Using that knowledge, I went down the rabbit hole in researching MÖLK, looking up every single ingredient. It’s all grass-fed protein with no hormones or soy. Also, it has no added sugar and utilizes my favorite sweetener, monk fruit. The chocolate peanut butter flavor rocked and gave me 22 grams of protein per serving. I’d have one MÖLKshake per day on my new keto eating plan/exercise regimen. To make a long story short, I dropped 40 pounds over the course of several months, and my blood sugar and cholesterol numbers have never been better.
Ready To Drink Goodness
A few weeks ago, I was at our local Wawa convenience store to gas up and get some JOCKO GO energy drinks (more on that another day) when out of the corner of my eye, I noticed that MÖLK was now available prepackaged as a ready to drink shake. Awesome. I immediately bought all of the Banana Cream flavor they had at the time. I had heard about that flavor on the podcast and wanted to give it a try; besides, I was starving, and it seemed like just the thing to hit the spot.
And hit the spot it did. I drank it ice cold, and the first thing I noticed was the extreme creaminess and rich banana flavor. It was sweet but not overly so. After my first sip, I waited for a few seconds, and there was no bad aftertaste. Sometimes people complain about that in drinks sweetened with monk fruit, but not this one. The second sip was as good as the first, and before long, all 12 ounces were just a banana-flavored memory. The creaminess of the MÖLK combined with the whopping 30 grams of protein they packed in there surprisingly filled me up.
I was fully expecting to drink at least 2 of them in one sitting, but one was enough. I had no idea how many calories were in a bottle until after I drank it…only 180. If you are a calorie watcher, that’s a good thing. Me, I look for carbs. A quick scan of the side of the container revealed it has only four total grams of carbohydrates, one of which was from dietary fiber. So, subtracting that one gram of dietary fiber, because it passes through the body undigested, we have a total of 3 grams of net carbs. Quite keto-friendly, and it fits right in there with my 20 grams of carbs a day limit.
The same as their MÖLK powder, this ready-to-drink version features a clean grass-fed protein with no antibiotics or hormones. There is no soy in there either; this is all animal-sourced high-quality protein. It boasts zero artificial flavors or colors, but they have added special enzymes and probiotics to make it easily digestible. The protein is a time-released blend of whey concentrate, whey isolate, casein, and egg. This ensures that the muscle-building goodness will be available to your body as needed for hours after you drink it. I can feel myself getting stronger already.
As I read the ingredients, I came across something listed as “Fermented Cane Sugar (Reb-M).” For a fraction of a second, I thought maybe I had been duped, but then I remembered I didn’t know what I didn’t know, so I put on my researcher cap again and went to work. As it turns out, Reb-M is some pretty cool stuff. It’s a natural molecule that begins with the fermentation of sugarcane but contains no sugar itself. It is a highly concentrated byproduct of the fermentation process, with the end product being 250 times sweeter than sugar. That’s your magic ingredient right there. Good stuff.
