“That’s part of the problem; for the GPT3 work, we were very surprised by just how small the changes were that might still allow for a different output,” said Dr. Daniel Brown, a sharp mind in this fight and a co-author of the study, told Defense One.

Dr. Brown suggests we teach these AIs to show their work, citing sources like diligent students. And let’s not forget the human touch—double-checking the machine’s homework for any slips.
“Another concern might be that ‘personalized’ LLMs (Large language models) may well reinforce the biases in their training data […] if we’re both reading about the same conflict and our two LLMs tell the current news in a way [personalized] such that we’re both reading disinformation,” Brown noted.
Consistency is key; hammering it with similar questions to test its mettle is a good strategy.
OpenAI’s been scrambling to patch up their Frankenstein with new versions of ChatGPT, aiming to tighten the screws on accuracy and accountability.
But it’s a long road ahead, with more mines to defuse and pitfalls to avoid.
