SOFREP Video Interview With SEAL Team Six Founder Dick Marcinko – Episode 1: Joining the Navy at 17

This is part one of a nine-part series of interviews SOFREP conducted with SEAL Team-Six founder Richard “Demo Dick” Marcinko

Friend of SOFREP and SEAL Team Six (ST-6) founder Commander Richard “Dick” Marcinko passed away on Christmas Day 2021, but his memory will live on forever. Fortunately, we had the opportunity to sit down with “Demo Dick” back in 2017 and conduct an in-depth series of interviews with him. As you might imagine, he was completely candid, and his telling of the exploits of his early life and the founding of ST-6 are nothing short of fascinating. It’s truly a bit of American history.

Join us in this first episode, where we learn that the 1951 film “The Frogmen” starring actor Richard Widmark ignited Dick’s desire to be an underwater combatant. “I can do that,” he fondly recalls thinking after watching the movie for the first time.

The rest, as they say, is history.
