Today we have a situation in which Iran is a de facto ally of ours in the fight against ISIS, but also a country we’re actively trying to subvert in places like Yemen. While arrangements like this leave a lot of people scratching their heads, these situations are fairly common in international relations. America can overtly or covertly support a country in one region while subverting it in another, all in accordance with American interests in these different parts of the world.
